A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

Evening newscasts on ABC, CBS and NBC have sugarcoated the crisis along the southern border, focusing on Title 42 and “the plight of illegal immigrants” while largely ignoring issues such as drug trafficking, according to the Media Research Center.

“There’s no telling how many thieves, murderers, rapists and child molesters have entered illegally because of [President] Biden’s new policies. But the ‘news’ media couldn’t care less — they like them,” Media Research Center founder and president Brent Bozell told Fox News Digital.

MRC senior research analyst Bill D’Agostino examined ABC’s “World News Tonight,” CBS’ “Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News” from October 1, 2022 through July 20, 2023 and found that coverage of the border “continued to focus almost exclusively on the plight of illegal immigrants.”

DOJ TO SUE TEXAS OVER FLOATING BORDER BARRIER; ABBOTT SAYS ‘SEE YOU IN COURT’

The MRC, a conservative watchdog, found that 254 minutes, 43 seconds were spent on the border crisis during that time span, and nearly half the coverage was related to Title 42, while less than five minutes was spent on drug trafficking.

Earlier this year, the Biden administration let Title 42 expire. Title 42, which dated back to 2020 under the Trump administration, allowed U.S. officials to turn away migrants who came to the U.S.-Mexico border because of health concerns at the height of the COVID pandemic. According to the MRC, the border crisis would have received significantly less coverage if Title 42 didn’t force its way into mainstream media.

Coverage of Title 42 accounted for 48.8% of all border-related stories, while covering the border as a political issue made up another 14.8% of the segments, according to the study. Evening newscasts on ABC, CBS and NBC mentioned the border crisis in general during 12.7% of the coverage while drug trafficking accounted for a measly 294 seconds of total coverage to make up less than two percent.

“Nearly every full-length report included sound bites from migrants desperate to enter the United States. It was never a question of how many should be let in, or whom. Rather, the answer was already assumed to be ‘everyone,’ and the only question was how best to achieve that goal while making the process as comfortable as possible for the illegal entrants,” D’Agostino wrote.

“The broadcast networks were intensely interested in Title 42, and in fact that topic alone comprised more than half of their border coverage,” D’Agostino continued. “Almost every discussion of Title 42 emphasized how difficult the restriction was making life for would-be migrants lined up at the border waiting to cross. Title 42 was also the driving force behind immigration stories dealing with other topics.”

The cornerstone of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ post-Title 42 strategy was an asylum rule that makes migrants ineligible for asylum if they entered the U.S. illegally and failed to claim asylum in other countries through which they passed. It has also ramped up the use of expedited removal and “credible fear” screenings.

CHRIS CHRISTIE BRUSHES OFF CBS ANCHOR ASKING IF GOP SHOULD ‘MOVE ON’ FROM HUNTER BIDEN

Linked to that is a requirement that those entering the U.S. at the border schedule an appointment via the controversial CBP One App. Initially there were 1,000 appointments a day for migrants to be paroled into the U.S., but that number has since ballooned to 1,450 a day

Meanwhile, other programs open up pathways without migrants having to travel to the border. One allows for 30,000 nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela and Nicaragua to fly directly into the U.S. a month, while the U.S. has also set up processing centers across Central America and has recently expanded a family unification program for relatives of citizens and permanent residents from certain countries.

The strategy has drawn criticism from right and left, with left-wing groups challenging the asylum rule in court, arguing that it unlawfully limits the right of foreign nationals to claim asylum. Meanwhile, conservative states have accused the administration of abusing the parole system to allow migrants in by the tens of thousands, noting that Congress says the power is to be used on a “case by case” basis due to urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. Separately, a May policy that allowed for the release of migrants into the U.S. due to overcrowding was blocked in May after a lawsuit from Florida.

BIDEN ADMIN AGAIN INCREASES NUMBER OF MIGRANTS ALLOWED INTO US VIA CONTROVERSIAL APP

As for coverage on ABC’s “World News Tonight,” CBS’ “Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News,” criticism was largely reserved for Republicans, according to the study.

“Almost without exception, discussions about political issues involving the border portrayed Republicans as ruthless border hawks with no capacity for empathy,” D’Agostino wrote. “The broadcast networks never once used the term ‘illegal immigration,’ ‘illegal immigrant’ or ‘illegal alien.’”

ABC, CBS and NBC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Fox News’ Ashlyn Messier and Adam Shaw contributed to this report.

Valuable Post !

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

Since George Washington’s unanimous election 234 years ago, no third-party candidate has ever won a presidential election. In fact, George Wallace, the infamous segregationist and governor of Alabama, was the last non-major party candidate to win a single electoral vote; he won 45 of them in 1968. That was 55 years ago.

Yet throughout our history, third-party candidates have been very successful at one thing: ensuring that they take enough votes from one party to throw the election to the other. In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt became unhappy with his hand-picked successor, President William Howard Taft, and decided to challenge him in the general election from the Progressive Party. The result: Democrat Woodrow Wilson won and became only the second Democrat elected to the presidency since 1861.

In more recent times, third-party efforts have derailed the hopes of both parties. Bill Clinton likely owes his 1992 election to the efforts of Ross Perot, who secured 19% of the popular vote against incumbent George H.W. Bush. More recently, we saw a similar dynamic with also-rans Ralph Nader and Jill Stein in 2000 and 2016, respectively.

But this year, No Labels seems poised to do something neither Democrats nor Republicans want, becoming the most recent third-party effort to spoil a presidential election.

SPECULATION OF NO LABELS THIRD PARTY PRESIDENTIAL TICKET SOARS AS MANCHIN TO APPEAR AT CENTRIST GROUP’S CONFAB

I am not an outside or casual observer when it comes to No Labels. In fact, I helped launch the organization in 2010 and served as its first national field director.

Early on, No Labels served an important function during the rise of the Tea Party, at a time when intra-party primary challengers targeted consensus-builders. Here was a group of Americans who were pushing back on the increasing bitterness in our national discourse, and I was all in.

In the years that followed this early success, No Labels veered dramatically from its original founding principles by engaging directly in campaigns. They began endorsing partisan candidates in general elections, picking one party over another, all under the auspices of bipartisanship.

More recently, No Labels has started setting up state political organizations to get ballot access for a yet-unnamed third-party candidate. This week, they released a 63-page “Common Sense” party platform to much media fanfare in New Hampshire filled with inoffensive and bland policy positions.

In season two of HBO’s “Veep,” fictional Vice President Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and her team try to craft a vague and innocuous abortion policy before one of her staff members recalls a passage in her heavily ghost-written book on the controversial issue: “Freedom means the freedom to choose how to use that freedom to protect the freedom of others.”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE OPINION NEWSLETTER

While “Veep” is a work of fiction, life often imitates art. When articulating their policy on abortion in “Common Sense,” No Labels writes, “America must strike a balance between protecting women’s rights to control their own reproductive health and our society’s responsibility to protect human life.” In other words, “the freedom to choose and the freedom to protect,” which really amounts to very little in the way of actual concrete policy recommendations. Yet the 2024 election is not a fictional television show.

Though much can change before November 2024, it appears we are headed to a rematch between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. And while all elections are important, the 2024 stakes are once again sky-high for both parties–not to mention the long-term viability of our country.

In keeping with their founding mission, No Labels should drop their third-party bid, and instead support the true bipartisan candidate in this race, Joe Biden.

Time and time again, the incumbent president has delivered on sweeping bipartisan legislation to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, spur an economic and manufacturing boom with the CHIPs and Science Act, protect the rights of same-sex couples and religious liberty, and the first federal gun-control measure in decades. Just last month, President Biden worked with a GOP majority in the House to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, a major bipartisan compromise that both lifted the debt limit and cut spending.

I fully support fighting back against the extremes in our politics and finding bipartisan consensus where possible – and that’s why I support Joe Biden. Publishing meaningless policy statements, setting up state parties, tricking innocent voters into signing onto their effort, and trafficking in the notion that Biden and Trump are equal makes a mockery of No Labels’ founding principles.

A longtime Lowes employee was reportedly fired after she attempted to stop thieves from stealing roughly $2,000 worth of merchandise from a Georgia store.

Donna Hansbrough, 68, was fired for violating the company’s policy on stopping the theft of merchandise, according to the Rincon Police Department.

Three suspects entered Lowes on June 25 and stole approximately $2,101 worth of merchandise. Hansbrough was repeatedly punched in the face after she grabbed one of the trio’s shopping carts.

VERMONT GROCERY STORE EMPLOYEE FIRED AFTER STOPPING ROBBERY, RECOVERING PURSE

Police identified the three suspects as Takyah Berry, Jarmar Lawton and Joseph Berry. Lawton was taken into custody and police are still searching for Joseph and Takyah, who are uncle and niece, according to a July 20 Facebook post from the Rincon Police Department.

“Hansbrough attempted to stop one of the subjects by grabbing the shopping cart. Hansbrough did not at any time make contact with any person. The cart that Donna grabbed was in the possession of subject Takyah Berry. After Donna grabbed the cart, Berry struck Donna in the face three times causing Donna’s right eye to swell and blacken,” the post read in part.

The 13-year Lowes veteran told the Effingham Herald she “got tired of seeing things get out the door.”

“I just … I lost it,” she said. “I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just … I just lost it.”

Hansbrough told the outlet that she didn’t expect to be fired. “Maybe a reprimand or a suspension,” she said.

The former Lowes employee also told CBS affiliate WTOC that she loved her job.

Lowes didn’t immediately respond for comment.

“I love my job. Loved. I enjoyed working with the people I worked with. I enjoyed helping the customers. I enjoyed everything about it. It was my… You know how you have your perfect job? That one was mine,” Hansbrough added.

Fox News’ Alicia Acuna said it’s “mind-blowing” the way Lowes treated its former employee.

“The problem is that companies and businesses are so scared now because of the litigious nature of so many folks out there. They’re worried about getting sued, but they’re worried about getting sued by the criminal. That’s what they’re worried about,” she said on “The Big Weekend Show.”

“And it just makes you stop and say like, ‘Are we in… Is this opposite day all day long?’ Because we’re doing things the opposite way we used to. You want someone who’s going to be there to protect your company, protect your business. It’s human nature to protect yourself and to get in trouble for that? It’s just kind of mind-blowing.”

Co-host Joey Jones said he couldn’t believe the company fired Hansbrough.

“I completely understand that you have policies and there’s a reason for them. This is an instinct. This is a reaction, not, you know… someone is about to steal from you. They’re about to do something wrong. She grabs the cart to try and stop them for a moment,” he explained.

“She’s trying to be a good employee at Lowe’s. And what do they want to do? They want to fire her? Lowe’s and Lululemon can go park themselves next to Bud Light because I swear I will build something out of paper and wear washcloths before I shop at either one of those [stores],” he added.
