U.S. forces in western Iraq were targeted in another drone attack early Tuesday morning, according to a report, marking the latest in a string of assaults on American troops in the Middle East as the Israel-Hamas war continues.

Two armed drones were used against Iraq’s Ain al-Asad airbase, Reuters reported, citing a security source and a government source. The base hosts international troops that assist Iraq in defeating a terror group called the Daesh, or the Islamic State. No casualties or damage were reported.

Tuesday’s attack would be the 25th on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria since Oct. 17. The attacks have included a mix of one-way drones and rockets, resulting in the death of an American contractor and 24 injured troops, according to U.S. defense officials.

The attacks have increased in recent weeks as President Biden and other senior leaders continue to express support for Israel and its right to defend itself after one of the worst terror attacks in decades left more than 1,400 people dead, including 34 Americans.

According to Reuters, a group called the “Islamic resistance in Iraq” endorsed the attack, which took place less than 24 hours after another missile attack from the same base in Iraq.

On Monday, five rockets landed a mile away from the al-Asad Air Base.

No injuries to American soldiers or the base were reported. Coalition forces also were not injured.

In response to earlier attacks, U.S. military forces last week conducted “self-defense strikes on two facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups,” Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin said Thursday.

“The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will not tolerate such attacks and will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests,” Austin said.

He added: “These precision self-defense strikes are a response to a series of ongoing and mostly unsuccessful attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militia groups that began on October 17.”

Austin also called Iran out by name, explicitly blaming the country for the attacks on American forces over the past two weeks.

“The United States does not seek conflict and has no intention nor desire to engage in further hostilities, but these Iranian-backed attacks against U.S. forces are unacceptable and must stop,” Austin said. “Iran wants to hide its hand and deny its role in these attacks against our forces. We will not let them. If attacks by Iran’s proxies against U.S. forces continue, we will not hesitate to take further necessary measures to protect our people.”

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, more than 30 Americans have been killed in the conflict, which has also claimed lives of citizens from 38 other countries.

Anything related to is very important

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

The head of a United Nations agency said during an emergency meeting Monday that “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire has become a matter of life and death for millions.”

Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warned against additional fighting in Gaza, where Israeli forces are launching a ground invasion to eliminate Hamas, which governs the territory.

Lazzarini warned Israel against the “collective punishment” of Palestinians and said a further breakdown of civil order following the looting of the agency’s warehouses by Palestinians searching for food and other aid “will make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the largest U.N. agency in Gaza to continue operating.”

Lazzarini, flanked by the head of the U.N. children’s agency UNICEF and a senior U.N. humanitarian official, provided briefings to the Security Council, where the officials painted a dire picture of the humanitarian situation in Gaza after more than a million people have been displaced. The meeting comes 23 days after Hamas’ surprise Oct. 7 attacks in Israel that killed over 1,400 people.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, which is run by Hamas, more than 8,300 civilians have been killed and tens of thousands have been injured since Israel launched retaliatory military action aimed at “obliterating” Hamas.

UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said the death toll includes more than 3,400 children, adding that over 6,300 have been injured.

“This means that more than 420 children are being killed or injured in Gaza each day — a number which should shake each of us to our core,” she said.

Lazzarini added: “This surpasses the number of children killed annually across the world’s conflict zones since 2019. This cannot be ‘collateral damage.’”

Many speakers at the council meeting denounced Hamas’ Oct. 7 surprise attacks on Israel and urged the release of some 230 hostages taken to Gaza by the militants.

But, virtually every speaker also said Israel was responsible under international humanitarian law to protect civilians and their essentials for life, including hospitals, schools and other infrastructure.

CALLS FOR UN LEADER’S RESIGNATION INTENSIFY AFTER ‘SHAMEFUL’ COMMENTS ABOUT HAMAS ATTACKS ON ISRAEL

The U.S. tried to strike a balance between supporting Israel’s right to seek out and eliminate Hamas while observing and following international law to avoid civilian casualties.

U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said “the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is growing more dire by the day.”

She also said the council must call “for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, address the immense humanitarian needs of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, affirm Israel’s right to defend itself from terrorism, and remind all actors that international humanitarian law must be respected.”

“That means Hamas must not use Palestinians as human shields – an act of unthinkable cruelty and a violation of the law of war,” the U.S. ambassador added, “and that means Israel must take all possible precautions to avoid harm to civilians.”

Thomas-Greenfield also told the council that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said “that while Israel has the right and responsibility to defend its citizens from terrorism, it must do so in a manner consistent with international humanitarian law.”

“The fact that Hamas operates within and under the cover of civilian areas creates an added burden for Israel, but it does not lessen its responsibility to distinguish between terrorists and innocent civilians,” she stressed.

Israel, however, pushed back on the council’s focus on Palestinian civilians and their refusal to condemn Hamas.

“Why are the humanitarian needs of Gazans, the sole issue, the sole issue you are focused on?” asked Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Gilad Erdan.

The ambassador then put a large six-pointed yellow Star of David reading “Never Again” on his suit jacket, as did other Israeli diplomats sitting behind him, and said: “We walk with the yellow star as a symbol of pride, a reminder that we swore to fight back to defend ourselves. Never again is now.”

Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian U.N. ambassador, also urged the Security Council to follow the General Assembly, demanding “an end to this bloodshed, which constitutes an affront to humanity, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and a clear and imminent danger for regional and international peace and security.”

The council meeting comes as Israel’s Netanyahu opposed a ceasefire.

“Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism. That will not happen,” Netanyahu said on Monday.

He added: “Ladies and gentlemen, the Bible says that there is a time for peace and a time for war. This is a time for war. A war for our common future. Today we draw a line between the forces of civilization and the forces of barbarism. It is a time for everyone to decide where they stand. Israel will stand against the forces of barbarism until victory. I hope and pray that civilized nations everywhere will back this fight.”

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

The Detroit Lions bounced back from a brutal loss to dominate the Las Vegas Raiders in a 26-14 win to move to 6-2 on the season.

Jahmyr Gibbs’ performance last week against the Baltimore Ravens was overlooked because it was a beatdown on the road. It was a different story tonight, as the rookie running back led the way for the Lions’ offense.

Gibbs set new career highs with 152 rushing yards on 26 carries, while scoring his second career touchdown on the ground. He also had 37 yards receiving on five catches for a total of 189 yards from scrimmage.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was dealing with an illness heading into this game, didn’t look like it was affecting him too much. He had six catches for 108 yards, including a 44-yard catch-and-run to lead the way through the air.

With Jared Goff very efficient under center, the Lions had 486 total yards on offense as the Raiders had no answer on most drives for this group Monday night.

However, the Raiders’ defense tried to keep this game close early on with some red zone stops leading to three Riley Patterson field goals as well as a fumble from wide receiver Josh Reynolds in the first half.

LIONS RELEASE WIDE RECEIVER MARVIN JONES SHORTLY AFTER HE STEPPED AWAY FOR ‘PERSONAL FAMILY MATTERS’

Jimmy Garoppolo and the Raiders’ offense did not reciprocate the production in this one. They struggled all night long, and the Lions defensive pressure on Garoppolo was a big reason why.

Garoppolo was sacked six times and pressured even more, as head coach Josh McDaniels stood on the sideline baffled by what his group was putting out on the field. Even after the Reynolds fumble, Garoppolo’s first pass of the Raiders’ golden opportunity was an underthrown ball to Davante Adams that resulted in an interception. The Raiders would turn it over on downs on the next drive followed by a punt.

Still, they were able to get the first touchdown of this game thanks to running back Josh Jacobs bulldozing his way down the field on a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a three-yard rushing score to make it 9-7 in favor of Detroit.

But, after Goff couldn’t find the end zone in their first three trips to the red zone, he finally cashed in with a strike to rookie tight end Sam LaPorta, who finished the game with eight catches for 57 yards on 10 targets.

The Lions were clearly the better team, but even in the second half, there was a slight chance the Raiders could steal the game on the road, especially after Goff’s biggest blunder.

It looked like he was trying to throw the ball away on a broken play, but veteran cornerback Marcus Peters picked it off and ran it 75 yards to the house to give the Raiders a two-point deficit, 16-14, in the third quarter.

A fumble was also forced on the next drive of the Lions by Craig Reynolds, breathing more life into the Raiders’ sideline. But yet again, the offense failed to make it count.

Eventually, the Lions tightened things up, which included Gibbs’ 27-yard touchdown run where he leaped into the Ford Field stands to celebrate with Lions fans after giving them a 23-14 lead.

LIONS’ AMON-RA ST BROWN DRESSES LIKE NOTRE DAME LEPRECHAUN AFTER ‘AGREEMENT’

Looking more at the Lions’ box score, Craig Reynolds had 74 yards on 14 rushes, adding to Gibbs’ 152 for a total 222 yards on the ground for Detroit.

Linebacker Alex Anzalone was all over the place for the Lions in this one, accounting for two of the six sacks on Garoppolo, which came during a single drive. He led the team with seven total tackles.

As for the Raiders, the NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET and Adams might be asking to be dealt on the plane ride home after another frustrating night.

He was overthrown on two occasions by Garoppolo where he might have a touchdown after beating his defender. He finished with just one catch on seven targets for 11 yards – the lowest of any Raiders receiver in this game.

Jacobs enjoyed some production with 61 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards, both of which led Las Vegas, but Garoppolo was a putrid 10 of 21 for 126 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Losers of two straight now, the Raiders head back home to face another lowly team in the New York Giants next Sunday, while the Lions head into their bye week.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell announced Monday he will drop his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley in 2024, and will instead make a run at a fellow Democrat — U.S. Rep. Cori Bush.

Bell, 48, will oppose Bush in the 2024 Democratic primary for Missouri’s 1st Congressional District seat that covers St. Louis and part of St. Louis County. The decision comes as Bush has taken criticism for her response to the Hamas attack on Israel, including her call in a social media post to end “US government support for Israeli military occupation and apartheid.”

Bell and Bush are both Black, and both emerged as political forces in the aftermath of the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, a death that helped spark the national Black Lives Matter movement. Bush was elected to the House in 2020, pulling a stunning upset of Democratic veteran William Lacy Clay.

Two years earlier, Bell pulled an equally surprising upset when he unseated Bob McCulloch as St. Louis County prosecutor.

Bell said at a news conference that he was changing course, even though he felt he was the Democrat best positioned to defeat Hawley — an admittedly tall task in very conservative Missouri. He said several people around the state urged him to run for Congress instead.

He also was critical of Bush’s stance on Hamas and Israel.

“Understand this unique place that we are with the world literally on fire,” Bell said. “I think that we need to make certain that we are providing that effective leadership, not only in our district but in D.C. and on the world stage.”

A spokeswoman for the Bush campaign said she will have a comment later.

St. Louis is overwhelmingly Democratic and the winner of the August primary will be the heavy favorite to win in November. So far, Bush and Bell are the only people in the race.

Bush, 47, was easily reelected to the House in 2022 despite a challenge from Democratic state Sen. Steve Roberts, who positioned himself as a more moderate alternative.

Last week, she was among just 10 House members who voted against a resolution supporting Israel following the attacks by Hamas that began Oct. 7. Meanwhile, her comments have drawn rebukes from some, including former Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri.

On Oct. 11, McCaskill posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch story headlined, “St. Louis’ Cori Bush draws fire for statement on Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel.”

“As she should,” McCaskill posted.

In the Democratic Senate primary, Bell was positioned against four other candidates. The projected frontrunner is Marine veteran Lucas Kunce, who launched his campaign to unseat Hawley in January, on the anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots. Bell, in announcing his Senate bid in June, highlighted a now-famous photo of Hawley raising a closed fist in solidarity that day, as well as video of the senator running through the halls during the attack.

The photo drew strong criticism from some, but it now appears on coffee mugs that the senator sells.

Bell and Bush had contrasting styles in Ferguson, after white Officer Darren Wilson fatally shot Brown, a Black and unarmed 18-year-old.

As an angry crowd began to surround officers barricaded in the police parking lot the day after the shooting, Bell and a small group of other Black leaders got in the middle and urged calm. Bell at the time was a municipal judge and attorney, and his father was a police officer. He was elected to the Ferguson City Council in 2015.

‘SQUAD’ MEMBER CORI BUSH ACCUSES ISRAEL OF ‘ETHNIC CLEANSING’ IN WAR AGAINST HAMAS

The shooting led to months of unrest. Bush was a vocal leader of many of those protests. In Congress, she has been an advocate of shifting money from police and using it for things such as mental health and social services.

Critics had accused McCulloch, who is white, of skewing the investigation into Brown’s death in favor of Wilson. A St. Louis County grand jury declined to indict Wilson, who later resigned. The U.S. Department of Justice also declined to charge him — and so did Bell. His office reinvestigated the case after he took office.

Bell said in 2020 that his office did not find enough evidence to charge Wilson. He called on Missouri’s Republican-led Legislature to revise laws that offer protection against prosecution for police officers that regular citizens aren’t afforded.

During his time as prosecutor, Bell has implemented sweeping changes that have reduced the jail population, ended prosecution of low-level marijuana crimes and sought to help offenders rehabilitate themselves. He also established an independent unit to investigate officer-involved shootings.
