CNN anchor Jake Tapper took aim at MSNBC with a pointed on-air remark Thursday after it was revealed that the liberal network was using an LED screen to cover the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee from their studio in New York City.

“We are here live, as opposed to some other networks that just have a big LED, who shall remain nameless,” Tapper said during an interview with Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, who has been leading the network’s coverage of the GOP convention this week, has repeatedly appeared on air with the backdrop of the convention behind her, leading casual viewers to assume she was on the ground in Milwaukee. But Maddow and many of her colleagues, including Nicolle Wallace, Jen Psaki, Joy Reid and other MSNBC anchors have not been inside the convention hall or even in the same city, according to the Times report.

LIVE UPDATES: REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION

“Instead, they were broadcasting from a studio in Midtown Manhattan, as a live feed of the convention floor was projected onto an LED screen behind them,” the Times report reads.

“The arrangement — which several veteran television news producers described as unorthodox — has created something of a trompe l’oeil effect. A casual glance at the screen would suggest that MSNBC’s top anchors were covering the convention in person,” the article continues, using a French phrase referring to highly realistic-looking but visually deceptive artwork.

MSNBC did previously announce last week that Maddow and other top political anchors would not travel to Milwaukee for the convention. Instead, the network sent Stephanie Ruhle, who hosts “The 11th Hour,” and daytime host Katy Tur, per the Times.

CNN PANEL AGREES TRUMP IS AT HIS ‘APEX OF POWER’ GOING INTO RNC AFTER SURVIVING ATTEMPT ON HIS LIFE

An MSNBC spokesman told the Times that at “the top of every broadcast, hosts identify themselves as being in New York or at MSNBC headquarters.” But critics say the live video feed of a bustling convention behind them sends a different impression to viewers tuning in throughout the night.

Tapper made the comment moments before former President Trump accepted the 2024 Republican nomination.

MSNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

If you want a thing done well, do it yourself. Napoleon Bonaparte Read more at https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/wisdom-quotes https://www.foxnews.com/health/follow-9-safe-hiking-tips-prevent-tragedy-trail

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

Recent hiking-related deaths have spotlighted the need for safety protocols.

While experts agree that hiking is considered a good form of exercise, they stress the importance of being prepared before heading out on the trail, especially during the hot summer months.

Outdoor enthusiasts shared the following important tips to help prevent hiking hazards.

FIREFIGHTERS CARRY 160-POUND DOG DOWN OREGON MOUNTAIN AFTER PUP IS INJURED ON TRAIL

Before heading out on a hike, familiarize yourself with maps, landmarks and any restricted areas or required permits, say trail experts.

“Research the terrain, trail difficulty, weather conditions and local wildlife,” Joey Coe, a trip leader for Backroads, a California-based travel touring company, told Fox News Digital.

Coe also suggested saving a photo of the trail map on your phone to reference while hiking.

Although cell phones and mapping apps can be helpful, it is important to have a backup paper map in the event of a lost signal, according to Guy deBrun, a lecturer at the Hart School of Hospitality, Sport & Recreation Management at James Madison University in Virginia.

WHAT IS A DERECHO? HERE’S A METEOROLOGICAL EXPLANATION AND OTHER INTERESTING FACTS

“Knowledge of how to use a paper map is imperative,” deBrun, who is also an instructor in wilderness first aid, told Fox News Digital in an email.

Hikers should also know the difficulty level of the planned route, according to the American Hiking Society, a nonprofit based in Silver Springs, Maryland.

“It’s also helpful to identify possible emergency exit points,” Maggie Peikon, manager of communications with the American Hiking Society, told Fox News Digital via email.

Online forums and trail reviews can also provide valuable information about the terrain, she added.

Whether you are setting off alone or with a group, let someone know your expected time frame for arriving at predetermined spots along the trail, experts recommend.

One approach is to create a “time control plan,” which considers linear distance and elevation.

A general rule of thumb is to travel two miles per hour, adding one mile for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain.

“Most novices fail to plan for elevation gain,” deBrun told Fox News Digital.

TIKTOK TRENDING QUESTION ABOUT ‘BEING STUCK IN A FOREST’ WITH ‘A MAN OR A BEAR’ YIELDS STRATEGIC TIPS

“One thousand feet of elevation gain adds one mile to your total mileage. So, if you are hiking five miles and gaining 2,000 feet, you [should] consider it seven miles. Divide by two miles an hour to estimate your time.”

It is also important to project the amount of daylight you will have during your excursion to avoid returning in the dark if you don’t have the necessary gear to hike at night.

It’s best to start small and build, starting with short, easy, well-marked trails that match your fitness level, experts agreed.

“Take breaks as needed, and don’t push too hard,” said Coe.

Peikon added, “If you’re feeling too tired, or realize you’re not going to make it to your destination within the time frame you prepared for, turn around and err on the side of caution.”

It’s also important to stay on the trail, she said.

“Avoid taking shortcuts. Getting off the trail for any reason can easily result in becoming directionally disoriented and getting lost.”

Aim to keep a distance of at least a few feet between hikers to avoid accidents and allow space for wildlife, experts advised.

For people hiking in a group, it’s best to avoid taking up the whole trail width, according to the American Hiking Society.

WEAR SUNSCREEN THE RIGHT WAY THIS SUMMER BY UNDERSTANDING SPF AND THE PROPER APPLICATION PROCESS

Hikers going downhill should yield to those going uphill.

Also, be wary of potential poisonous vegetation in that region so you can keep a safe distance and avoid accidental contact, experts cautioned.

Hikers should consider local weather patterns when deciding what to wear on a hike, experts told Fox News Digital.

“In many mountainous areas, lightning storms regularly occur in the afternoon,” deBrun said. “Hikers should take this into account.”

Coe recommended dressing in layers to help adjust to changing temperatures.

“Moisture-wicking, quick-drying materials are best,” he said.

Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and rain gear, experts advised.

For family hiking trips, it’s important to be aware of children’s body temperature. “If you are carrying a child, he or she may be cold while you are burning up,” Peikon said.

NEW YORK STATE FISHING RECORD BROKEN WITH SPECIES DATING BACK 100 MILLION YEARS

“Conversely, you may feel chilled while your child is warm from running around and playing.”

If multiple children are on the hike, dress them in bright, visible clothing so you can more easily spot them, Peikon said.

Multiple hiking trip leaders suggested wearing sturdy, well-fitted hiking boots with good ankle support.

“Break them in before your trip to avoid blisters,” Coe cautioned.

Running shoes or trail runners can be appropriate, deBrun said, but hiking boots may be more appropriate in wet or rocky terrain.

Pack a compass or GPS, whistle, flashlight, a basic first aid kit and trekking poles (if needed), said experts.

Teach children to blow the whistle several times in the event they wander away from the group, they also advised.

“Be aware of your group’s medical needs and any potential allergies,” Coe said.

Hikers might also want to consider taking a wilderness first aid course, he added.

In areas where bears are prevalent, experts suggest packing bear spray to use in the event of an unexpected encounter.

It’s also a good idea to check with local animal experts about how to navigate an encounter with wildlife.

Pack lightweight, high-energy foods such as nuts, dried fruit, energy bars and sandwiches, and avoid bringing perishable items unless you have proper storage, experts said.

It is also important to leave no trace of food behind.

“Carry out all trash and leftover food to avoid attracting wildlife and to prevent littering,” Coe advised.

Packing enough water is essential.

“Bring at least half a liter of water for every hour you plan to be hiking,” Peikon said — even more when hiking in the heat.

Very few water sources are safe to drink without purification, deBrun cautioned.

“Research water sources and bring a water purification system for longer hikes,” he said.

Selfies can distract hikers from their surroundings, which can increase the risk of falls or cause them to miss a hazard, according to hiking experts.

“It is always tragic to hear of fatalities due to selfies, which does happen every year in U.S. national parks,” Coe told Fox News Digital.

If you need to use your phone, stop walking and stay aware of your surroundings, he said.

“Use your phone only for emergency calls and navigation as needed,” Coe added.

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

The Justice Department has charged Sue Mi Terry, a former CIA analyst and senior official at the National Security Council, with acting as a secret agent for South Korea’s intelligence service in exchange for luxury gifts.

Terry, 54, accepted luxury gifts, including handbags, expensive meals at sushi restaurants and $37,000 of funding for her public policy program on Korean affairs in exchange for pushing South Korean government positions during media appearances, sharing private information with intelligence officers and facilitating meetings to allow South Korean officials to be granted access to U.S. officials, the Justice Department said in an indictment.

“As alleged, Sue Mi Terry, a former CIA and White House employee, subverted foreign agent registration laws in order to provide South Korean intelligence officers with access, information, and advocacy,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement. “Terry allegedly sold out her positions and influence to the South Korean government in return for luxury handbags, expensive meals, and thousands of dollars of funding for her public policy program.”

“The charges brought should send a clear message to those in public policy who may be tempted to sell their expertise to a foreign government to think twice and ensure you are in accordance with the law,” he continued.

Terry also confessed to the FBI that she acted as a source of information for South Korean intelligence, which included passing handwritten notes from an off-the-record June 2022 meeting with Secretary of State Antony Blinken about U.S. government policy toward North Korea in which she was present for, according to the indictment.

“Compromising national security endangers every American by weakening our defenses and putting lives at risk,” FBI Acting Assistant Director in Charge Christie M. Curtis said in a statement. “Sue Mi Terry, a former CIA and White House official, was arrested for allegedly acting as an unregistered agent for South Korea. For over a decade, despite repeated warnings, Terry allegedly exploited her think tank roles to advance a foreign agenda.”

“As alleged, she disclosed sensitive U.S. government information to South Korean intelligence and used her position to influence U.S. policy in favor of South Korea … for money and luxury gifts,” Curtis continued. “Her alleged actions posed a severe threat to national security. This arrest sends a clear message: the FBI will pursue and arrest anyone who endangers our nation’s security by collaborating with foreign spies.”

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service said Wednesday that intelligence authorities in the country are in close communication with the U.S. in regard to this case.

The charges against Terry, who worked for the U.S. government from 2001 until 2011, stem from her conduct after she left the government and worked for think tanks as a public policy expert on foreign affairs.

Terry first worked as a CIA analyst on East Asian issues before later serving as the director for Korea, Japan and Oceanic Affairs for the National Security Council and then as the deputy national intelligence officer for East Asia at the National Intelligence Council. After leaving the government, she began working for think tanks in New York and Washington, D.C., including the Council on Foreign Relations.

Prosecutors accuse Terry of not registering with the Justice Department as a foreign agent.

NORTH KOREA SAYS NEW MISSILE CARRIES ‘SUPER-LARGE WARHEAD,’BUT EXPERTS SKEPTICAL OF CLAIMS

Terry said on disclosure forms filed with the House of Representatives, where she testified at least three times between 2016 and 2022, that she was not an “active registrant.”

She also never disclosed her covert work with South Korea, the indictment says, which prevented Congress from having “the opportunity to fairly evaluate Terry’s testimony in light of her longstanding efforts” for the government.

Terry’s lawyer, Lee Wolosky, said in a statement that the allegations are “unfounded” and “distort the work of a scholar and news analyst known for her independence and years of service to the United States.”

Wolosky said his client has not held a security clearance for more than a decade and that her views have remained consistent.

“In fact, she was a harsh critic of the South Korean government during times this indictment alleges that she was acting on its behalf,” he said. “Once the facts are made clear it will be evident the government made a significant mistake.”

A Florida man allegedly wrote, “I’ll kill Joe Biden today,” on July 11, two days before Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt in western Pennsylvania.

Jason Patrick Alday, a 39-year-old Florida man, has been on the Secret Service’s radar since late June, when he told an intake officer of a mental health facility that he didn’t like President Biden and was going to “slit his throat,” according to a probable cause affidavit.

Secret Service agents questioned him, and he denied the accusations, according to federal court documents.

On June 30, Alday allegedly said on X that Biden’s health is declining: “Not doing too good at all. Should I finish him off?”

He allegedly taunted the Secret Service agent who questioned him in June in a series of racist tweets.

There were multiple other bigoted tweets directed at the investigating Secret Service agent and graphic threats to kill the president, according to court documents.

Alday was arrested on Monday by the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and the Secret Service.
