The shake-up at the top of the ticket made political waves down ballot when President Joe Biden suspended his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris last Sunday. U.S. Senate Candidate Dave McCormick toured a natural gas pad in Warren, Pennsylvania, Friday to contrast his “all of the above energy” goals with Harris’ resurfaced comments from her 2020 campaign that she would ban fracking.

Dave McCormick was quick to pivot to Kamala Harris this week as he vies for Senator Bob Casey’s Senate seat, considered one of the most likely pick-ups for Republicans to regain Senate control. McCormick released an ad Tuesday clipping Harris’ most liberal comments with Casey’s endorsement, calling Harris “the most liberal Presidential nominee in U.S. history.” The McCormick campaign points to Casey endorsing Harris as proof he is “deeply out of step with the needs of Pennsylvanians.” A 60-second version of the ad will air this Monday during the Olympics in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre and Pittsburgh markets.

HARRIS’ FAVORABILITY SEES DRAMATIC SPIKE AFTER BIDEN DROPS OUT: POLL

Former President Donald Trump and McCormick, who have both committed to unleashing American energy as pillars of their campaigns, latched onto comments made by then-candidate Kamala Harris at a CNN town hall. “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking,” Harris said in 2019. Reacting to Harris’ resurfaced comments at a rally in North Carolina Wednesday Trump said, “She wants no fracking.” President Harris and her campaign have since walked back those now viral comments alleging, she would not ban fracking.

“Trump’s false claims about fracking bans are an obvious attempt to distract from his own plans to enrich oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class,” a spokesperson for the Harris campaign shared in a statement with Fox News. “The Biden-Harris Administration passed the largest ever climate change legislation and under their leadership, America now has the highest ever domestic energy production. This Administration created 300,000 energy jobs, while Trump lost nearly a million and his Project 2025 would undo the enormous progress we’ve made the past four years.”

When asked by Fox News about Harris’ comments, McCormick pointed instead to the Biden-Harris administration’s record on energy, painting a conflicting view from the one presented by the Harris campaign.

“In this crazy effort to eliminate fossil fuel consumption in our country with all the EPA regulations, the ban on fracking, the LNG pause and killing the Keystone pipeline, the Biden administration has put hundreds of billions of dollars of subsidies to transition to EVs and to solar panels,” McCormick said. “The majority of those solar panels and lithium batteries come from China, so in this crazy strategy of the radical environmental left, we’ve made ourselves more dependent on our greatest adversary. That’s the folly of the Biden administration’s energy policy: bad for security, bad for our economy and bad for the environment. We need pro-energy policies that open up the opportunity here in Pennsylvania.”

In a Fox News exclusive, Dave McCormick toured Bull Run Energy in Warren, Pennsylvania, Friday. Co-founded by Justin Hansen and Sam Harvey, the duo oversee 19 employees, 1,400 oil wells, and drill and frack 5 or 6 wells a year. Most of the oil they produce becomes products like lipstick and other lubricants and everyday products.

“Our company is very small,” Harvey told Fox News Friday. “We have 21 total employees, including myself and Justin. All the shallow conventional operators in northwest Pennsylvania are small businesses, so this is not Big Oil. This is people trying to make a living. It’s a very marginal business. It’s hard to make a living doing this.”

Harvey outlined the difficulty of a one-size-fits-all approach to energy regulation, advocating to scale restrictions to the size and operation of an oil or gas business. Under the Biden-Harris administration, he said the top-down approach hasn’t matched the reality on the ground.

“Over the past three or four years, we’ve had a lot of regulations that have been rolling down from the federal government,” Harvey said. “They roll down to the state government, and then they’re just now starting to get implemented toward us. What we’re seeing is that a lot of these regulations are designed for Big Oil companies that are drilling unconventional, deep horizontal wells. It doesn’t seem like the folks who wrote the regulations in D.C. have ever come out and visited what these shallow, conventional operations are like. The language doesn’t even fit what we’re doing here.”

McCormick told Fox News he visited Bull Run energy to do just that – see how small gas and oil operations are run so he’s equipped to legislate on Pennsylvania’s energy economy.

“I want to make sure I understand all the issues associated with our energy economy.” McCormick said. “So that when I’m a senator, I can be a pro-energy senator that does all the things necessary to make sure our energy sector develops.”

Earlier this year, McCormick unveiled his “Keystone Agenda” which includes “unleashing Pennsylvania energy.” The policy platform lays out a plan to remove Biden-era restrictions on gas and oil projects, embrace “all of the above” energy production, and use America’s natural resources to build energy independence and national security.

“We’re blessed in Pennsylvania with the fourth largest natural gas reserves in the world,” McCormick added. “We just can’t get access to them, and we can’t get them into the hands of consumers around the United States and around the world. That’s the key. Pennsylvania’s senator should be fighting for those things. Bob Casey has been weak every step of the way and has been for more regulations and eventually the elimination of fossil fuels. That’s bad for Pennsylvanians and bad for America.”

SOME SAN FRANCISCO DEMOCRATS AREN’T SOLD ON KAMALA HARRIS FOR PRESIDENT: ‘MIXED FEELINGS’

In response, the Casey campaign doubled down on the senator’s commitment to “responsible fracking” and his voting record against fracking bans.

“David McCormick is grasping at straws because the people of Pennsylvania have figured out what he really is — a Connecticut hedge fund mega-millionaire who lied about where he lives, supports a dangerous abortion ban, built up the Chinese military, and invested millions in China’s largest fentanyl producer,” a Casey campaign spokesperson shared with Fox News. “Meanwhile, Bob Casey supports fracking and is actually delivering for the Commonwealth by holding greedy corporations accountable, lowering costs, and supporting veterans and seniors.”

“This race and this election is about two fundamentally different views of the world and how we should lead our country forward, how we can have an economy that’s for working people, how we have secure borders, how we have a robust energy sector, so we can be an energy superpower,” McCormick told Fox News Friday. “That’s the choice between, Biden-Harris-Casey. Now, Harris-Casey versus McCormick-Trump at the top of the ticket. It’s a fundamentally different view.”

Depending on who you ask, the bones that have been sitting in a Tokyo repository for decades could be either leftovers from early 20th century anatomy classes, or the unburied and unidentified victims of one of the country’s most notorious war crimes.

A group of activists, historians and other experts who want the government to investigate links to wartime human germ warfare experiments met over the weekend to mark the 35th anniversary of their discovery and renew a call for an independent panel to examine the evidence.

JAPANESE CRIME BOSS CHARGED BY US PROSECUTORS IN CONSPIRACY TO TRAFFIC NUCLEAR MATERIAL TO IRAN

Japan’s government has long avoided discussing wartime atrocities, including the sexual abuse of Asian women known as “comfort women” and Korean forced laborers at Japanese mines and factories, often on grounds of lack of documentary proof. Japan has apologized for its aggression in Asia, but since the 2010s it has been repeatedly criticized in South Korea and China for backpedalling.

Around a dozen skulls, many with cuts, and parts of other skeletons were unearthed on July 22, 1989, during construction of a Health Ministry research institute at the site of the wartime Army Medical School. The school’s close ties to a germ and biological warfare unit led many to suspect that they could be the remains of a dark history that the Japanese government has never officially acknowledged.

Headquartered in then-Japanese-controlled northeast China, Unit 731 and several related units injected prisoners of war with typhus, cholera and other diseases, according to historians and former unit members. They also say the unit performed unnecessary amputations and organ removals on living people to practice surgery and froze prisoners to death in endurance tests. Japan’s government has acknowledged only that Unit 731 existed.

Top Unit 731 officials were not tried in postwar tribunals as the U.S. sought to get ahold of chemical warfare data, historians say, although lower-ranked officials were tried by Soviet tribunals. Some of the unit’s leaders became medical professors and pharmaceutical executives after the war.

A previous Health Ministry investigation said the bones couldn’t be linked to the unit, and concluded that the remains were most likely from bodies used in medical education or brought back from war zones for analysis, in a 2001 report based on questioning 290 people associated with the school.

It acknowledged that some interviewees drew connections to Unit 731. One said he saw a head in a barrel shipped from Manchuria, northern China, where the unit was based. Two others noted hearing about specimens from the unit being stored in a school building, but had not actually seen them. Others denied the link, saying the specimens could include those from the prewar era.

A 1992 anthropological analysis found that the bones came from at least 62 and possibly more than 100 different bodies, mostly adults from parts of Asia outside Japan. The holes and cuts found on some skulls were made after death, it said, but did not find evidence linking the bones to Unit 731.

But activists say that the government could do more to uncover the truth, including publishing full accounts of its interviews and conducting DNA testing.

Kazuyuki Kawamura, a former Shinjuku district assembly member who has devoted most of his career to resolving the bone mystery, recently obtained 400 pages of research materials from the 2001 report using freedom of information requests, and says it shows that the government “tactfully excluded” key information from witness accounts.

The newly published material doesn’t contain a smoking gun, but it includes vivid descriptions — the man who described seeing a head in a barrel also described helping to handle it and then running off to vomit — and comments from several witnesses who suggested that more forensic investigation might show a link to Unit 731.

“Our goal is to identify the bones and send them back to their families,” said Kawamura. The bones are virtually the only proof of what happened, he says. “We just want to find the truth.”

Health Ministry official Atsushi Akiyama said that witness accounts had already been analyzed and factored into the 2001 report, and the government’s position remains unchanged. A key missing link is documentary evidence, such as a label on a specimen container or official records, he said.

Documents, especially those involving Japan’s wartime atrocities, were carefully destroyed in the war’s closing days and finding new evidence for proof would be difficult.

Akiyama added that a lack of information about the bones would make DNA analysis difficult.

Hideo Shimizu, who was sent to Unit 731 in April 1945 at age 14 as lab technician and joined the meeting online from his home in Nagano, said he remembers seeing heads and body parts in formalin jars stored in a specimen room in the unit’s main building. One that struck him most was a dissected belly with a fetus inside. He was told they were “maruta” — logs — a term used for prisoners chosen for experiments.

Days before Japan’s Aug. 15, 1945 surrender, Shimizu was ordered to collect bones of prisoners’ bodies burned in a pit. He was then given a pistol and a packet of cyanide to kill himself if he was caught on his journey back to Japan.

He was ordered never to tell anyone about his Unit 731 experience, never contact his colleagues, and never seek a government or medical job.

Shimizu said he cannot tell if any specimen he saw at the 731 could be among the Shinjuku bones by looking at their photos, but that what he saw in Harbin should never be repeated. When he sees his great-grandchildren, he said, they remind him of that fetus he saw and the lives lost.

“I want younger people to understand the tragedy of war,” he said.

Former President  Donald Trump is slated to speak in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, about 200 miles from the venue where an attempt was made on his life earlier this month. Experts tell Fox News Digital that security measures will be “amped up” in light of scrutiny facing the U.S. Secret Service and the potential for a “copycat” killer.

“You have the expression ‘copycats.’ They say, ‘Look at the attention that [would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks] got,’ and they say, ‘I want that attention,'” Kevin Maloy, a former special agent with the State Department, told Fox News Digital.

“I’m sure the Secret Service have amped up their efforts because, you know, you do have the fear a little bit of a copycat out there. He got that close to ultimate success that easily – maybe I could do something,” he continued.

TRUMP SHOOTING: TIMELINE OF ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW GUNMAN EVADED SECURITY

Gene Petrino, who served as the SWAT commander for Florida’s Plantation Police Department for 26 years and is an expert on active shooter incidents, told Fox News Digital that there is “always a concern for copycat shooters,” and that “a recent attack would most definitely tighten the security risk and response.”

The fear of another attempt isn’t unfounded. Within the three weeks before John F. Kennedy Jr. was shot dead by Lee Harvey Oswald, there had been assassination plots against him thwarted in Chicago and Miami, according to interviews with former Secret Service agents conducted by CBS Miami and ABC Chicago

The GOP nominee will take the stage at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, which has over one million square feet of indoor floor space, according to its website.

TRUMP TO RETURN TO PENNSYLVANIA FOR FIRST TIME SINCE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Pennsylvania State and Capitol Police will assist the Secret Service in securing the venue, State Police told Fox News Digital, while the local Harrisburg Police Department will cover traffic control surrounding the venue.

“You would think that [an indoor venue] would be easier to secure,” said Maloy, who protected former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and former Secretary of State John Kerry. “But the potential size of the crowd jammed into the space, especially after the Butler event, could pose its own concerns with visibility.”

Security sweeps of the stadium have likely already taken place or are underway, Maloy said, to determine potential security vulnerabilities and locations where a weapon or explosive could potentially be stashed.

“We have already seen a big difference in [Trump’s] security detail at the RNC. For his rally, I would expect to see the same thing,” Petrino said. “I think you will see more distance between Trump and the crowd, and a wide pathway as he approaches the stage. I would be shocked if there weren’t drones providing aerial coverage, multiple sniper teams covering multiple angles, and even K-9 teams.”

SECRET SERVICE’S TRUMP RALLY SECURITY FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED WITH ‘EYES IN THE SKIES’: REP GUEST

“I think he will not spend a lot of time getting on and off stage,” Petrino added.

Arriving and departing a venue are “one of the most vulnerable times for a protectee,” Maloy said, because their timing and movement are predictable.

“You want to consider alternatives to that main entrance – an underground parking lot, a back or side door, something with a back or side view,” Maloy said. “If you can’t do that, you want to tent the area so that you can obscure vision to that area.”

Inside the venue, Maloy noted that there are catwalks, balconies and boxed seating that could be ideal vantage points for a potential shooter, and said that “access to these area should be controlled.” The maintenance catwalks, he said, would be an ideal position for Secret Service counter snipers.

He also noted that an evacuation strategy for the former president will be laid out, with a motorcade ready for him outside in the event that another assassination attempt takes place.

The close call in Butler, Maloy said, was either caused by “incompetency or complacency” within the Secret Service, but that since then, he has “[seen] lessons learned from the Butler incident.”

“Their pride was not only dinged, it was hammered,” Maloy said of the Secret Service. “They are a professional agency, overall. Everyone stole the Secret Service’s protection book.”

“Whether it was incompetence on some individuals or a series of individuals or complacency setting in, I don’t know the answer to that – that’s what everyone is trying to figure out,” he continued.

Months after Francis Ford Coppola was accused of inappropriate behavior on the set of his new film “Megalopolis,” videos of the “Godfather” director appearing to kiss multiple women on set have surfaced.

In videos obtained by Variety, the 85-year-old director can reportedly be seen hugging and kissing various extras while filming a nightclub scene for the sci-fi film.

According to the outlet, the scene was shot on Feb. 14, 2023, at the Tabernacle, a concert hall in Atlanta. The call sheet, per Variety, said the actresses playing female party goers had been “cleared for topless nudity” while others in the scene had been “cleared for scantily clad.”

‘GODFATHER’ DIRECTOR ACCUSED OF BEING ‘OLD SCHOOL’ AROUND WOMEN ON SET OF NEW FILM

A source told Variety that after multiple takes, Coppola got on a microphone and told the crowd, “Sorry, if I come up to you and kiss you. Just know it’s solely for my pleasure.”

According to the outlet, no one tried to stop his behavior or publicly raise concerns.

“Because Coppola funded [the film], there was no HR department to keep things in check,” a source said. “Who were they supposed to talk to? Complain to Coppola and report Coppola to himself?”

A representative for Coppola did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

In May, The Guardian published a report alleging a series of issues behind the scenes, including Coppola’s alleged advances towards women.

Several sources told the outlet Coppola could be “old school,” allegedly pulling women to sit on his lap. As far as the kissing and hugging goes, sources told The Guardian Coppola was “trying to get them in the mood.”

In a statement to The Guardian, “Megalopolis” executive co-producer Darren Demetre said, “I have known and worked with Francis and his family for over 35 years. As one of the first assistant directors and an executive producer on his new epic, ‘Megalopolis,’ I helped oversee and advise the production and ran the second unit. Francis successfully produced and directed an enormous independent film, making all the difficult decisions to ensure it was delivered on time and on budget, while remaining true to his creative vision.”

“There were two days when we shot a celebratory Studio 54-esque club scene where Francis walked around the set to establish the spirit of the scene by giving kind hugs and kisses on the cheek to the cast and background players. It was his way to help inspire and establish the club atmosphere, which was so important to the film. I was never aware of any complaints of harassment or ill behavior during the course of the project,” he added.

Coppola was recently profiled in The New York Times, during which time he was asked about The Guardian’s report.

“I’m not touchy-feely,” Coppola told the outlet. “I’m too shy.”

“Megalopolis” is Coppola’s first film in 13 years and his 23rd overall. He spent $120 million of his own money on the epic and has been working on it for decades.

Fox News Digital’s Elizabeth Stanton contributed to this post.
