Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially lost his U.S. Secret Service (USSS) protection on Monday, just days after his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.

Kennedy’s press secretary confirmed the change in a statement to CBS News. Kennedy had gone through a long process to receive USSS protection in the first place, with his initial requests being denied earlier in the cycle.

It was not until the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in July that President Biden ordered that Kennedy receive Secret Service protection as well.

“In light of this weekend’s events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy, Jr. Both prior to and after the events of this past weekend,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced shortly after Trump’s shooting.

The candidate nevertheless withdrew from the race on Friday and endorsed former President Trump.

Kennedy spoke at length on Sunday about the “unity government” he is supporting alongside Trump. He said the former president agreed to pursue the key issues that led to his campaign, such as ending the war in Ukraine, combating censorship and improving children’s health in the U.S.

Pollsters within Trump’s campaign say they are already seeing Kennedy’s supporters breaking toward the former president. Polls prior to Kennedy’s withdrawal indicated that he was polling at 5% or 6% support in key swing states like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Kennedy has also teased that Trump is likely to announce more additions to the so-called unity government in the near future.

“This is only the beginning. Wait till you see the next additions to President Trump’s Unity Government,” he wrote on X.

Earlier Sunday, Kennedy appeared on “Fox News Sunday” for an interview with host Shannon Bream. There he defended his decision to endorse Trump despite his past criticism of the former president. He argued that Americans can disagree but still get along and work for progress in the areas where they do agree.

Drew Barrymore is taking a different approach for the new season of her talk show.

The host of “The Drew Barrymore Show” told Entertainment Tonight she plans to give her guests a little more space during interviews.

“I’ll try to practice physical distance, which is not my strong point,” Barrymore said with a big laugh.

She added, “Do you know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself! I like to be around people!”

Jennifer Garner, Kerry Washington, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler and Lionel Richie have all been hugged or had Barrymore get on her knees and take their hands as she enthusiastically speaks with them. 

In April, she spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris, taking her hands in hers after asking her to be “Mamala of the country.”

One of the more infamous instances of Barrymore’s hands-on approach was her December 2023 interview with talk show host icon Oprah Winfrey.

She took Winfrey’s hands, caressed her arm, and held her close as Winfrey tried to shift a little on the couch.

While fans were critical online, Winfrey told TMZ at the time she enjoyed Barrymore’s hands-on approach during the interview and admitted it provided her solace. She added that she thought Barrymore was endearing and said she loved the actress for staying true to herself. Winfrey then joked that she now demands that her longtime partner, Stedman Graham, offer similar stroking sessions.

“We’re always going to be big on joy and laughter and feeling good, and that’s something I always wanted to do but never thought we would launch in a pandemic,” Barrymore told ET. “And trying to lean into the joy and the feel good and the comedy at that time was real weird and wacky.”

“The Drew Barrymore Show” launched in December 2020, and received a two-season pickup, taking it into 2026.

“We had a lot of years of uncertainty, and it feels all the more delicious because of that,” the 49-year-old said.

“When we wanted to launch in a pandemic, it wasn’t an obvious way to go, and it was a tremendous risk. And I think it led to the uncertainty, but it also led to the possibilities. And if we had not been given that chance, that unorthodox timing, we would not be here today.”

Josh Berry and Michael McDowell went for wild rides during the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway as another driver locked in a spot for the playoffs.

Berry’s No. 4 Ford got airborne down the backstretch with two laps to go. He hit the retaining wall while upside down and sliding on his roof. After the sparks were done flying, Berry had to wait a few minutes before emergency officials were able to flip his vehicle over.

Berry was leading the race at the time of the crash when Austin Cindric got turned sideways and slammed into him.

“I’m all good, actually it probably wasn’t as bad as it looked,” Berry told reporters, via NASCAR.com. “But man, I’m bummed. We had a helluva night going. We were in position and really proud of the job I did tonight, and the team did tonight. We were in contention.”

Earlier in the race, McDowell was among the several cars involved in a wreck with nine laps to go. Drivers were racing three wide in the corner and one miscalculation started a major crash.

McDowell went airborne as the car turned sideways but somehow managed to stay right-side up. Joey Logano, Justin Haley, Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick were among the 14 cars caught up in the accident.

When the dust cleared, Harrison Burton found himself in Victory Lane for the first win of his career. He crossed the line as his father, former NASCAR star Jeff Burton, called the race from the NBC booth.

“I cried the whole victory lap,” Burton said. “I, obviously, got fired from this job. I wanted to do everything for the Wood Brothers that I could. They’ve given me an amazing opportunity in life and to get them (No.) 100 on my way out is amazing. We’re in the playoffs now. Let’s go to Darlington and see what happens.”

It was the 100th win for the Wood Brothers

Burton now has a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, with one race remaining before the end of the regular season.

The last race takes place next week at Darlington Raceway.
