California Gov. Gavin Newsom has canceled the public capitol’s annual Christmas tree lighting, instead opting to host a virtual event amid planned pro-Palestinian protests, according to a report.

According to KCRA, Wednesday’s 92nd Annual California State Capitol Tree Lighting was initially expected to be an in-person event in Sacramento, but a decision was made to make the event virtual because of planned protests.

An announcement posted on Tuesday by the governor’s office states that a pre-recorded virtual ceremony will be released on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol barricaded most of the capitol building’s west side lawn, where the tree is located, according to the report. Several signs read “KEEP OUT, NO TRESPASSING.”

‘MR. GRINCHMAS’ CAUGHT ON CAMERA STEALING CHRISTMAS TREE OFF CALIFORNIA FAMILY’S SUV

Originally, Newsom was planning to welcome people to the event, which was supposed to feature multiple business stands and concert performances.

A spokesperson for Newsom told the outlet that nationwide protests were a factor in the decision to hold the event virtually.

“As we continue to see protests across the country impacting the safety of events of all scales — and for the safety and security of all participating members and guests including children and families — the ceremony this year will be virtual,” the spokesperson said. “The program is unchanged and viewers can tune in Wednesday evening to watch this year’s festivities.”

The Sacramento Regional Coalition for Palestinian Rights as well as several other organizations had planned to hold a protest at the event, telling the outlet they wanted to “out Gov. Gavin Newsom for hiding from the public because he doesn’t want to face their anger at his shameful stance in regard to the genocide in Gaza.”

CALIFORNIA TEACHER STRUGGLING WITH DISCIPLINING STUDENTS DUE TO STATE LAW: ‘IT’S HARD’

“Governor Newsom decided to cancel the tree lighting ceremony rather than face the public that is enraged by his shameful silence on the genocide in Gaza. This certainly doesn’t add up with his past stance with Native Americans,” said Yassar Dahbour of Sacramento Regional Coalition for Palestinian Rights.

California GOP Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson said in a statement to Fox News Digital that Newsom is a “modern-day Grinch.”

“Gavin Newsom still won’t condemn the pro-Hamas and antisemitic protests that shut down his own party’s recent convention, so it’s no surprise he’d prefer to hide from a tree lighting where he risked being confronted by more protesters. Newsom is a modern-day Grinch whose cowardice is punishing the public and small businesses who’d planned on celebrating this joyous occasion,” said Patterson.

James Gallagher, California Assembly Republican Leader, said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the decision is “pathetic.”

“First Newsom was silent when terrorist sympathizers stormed his own party convention, and now he’s allowed pro-Hamas radicals to intimidate him into canceling an event that was supposed to spread a message of unity, joy and peace. It’s pathetic that he doesn’t have the spine to stand up to these extremists,” said Gallagher.

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., laced into Harvard University President Dr. Claudine Gay during a House committee hearing on the rise of antisemitism on college campuses on Tuesday, challenging that the Ivy League school’s leader answer for students chanting for violence against Israel.

“Harvard students calling for the mass murder of African-Americans is not protected free speech at Harvard, correct?” Stefanik asked, leading to her point.

The New York Republican demanded that Gay respond to the “yes or no question,” before asking the Harvard president if she was familiar with the term “intifada.” Stefanik cited multiple instances of Harvard students chanting, “There is only one solution. Intifada, Revolution,” and, “globalize the intifada,” since Hamas’ October 7 massacre and Israel’s counteroffensive in Gaza that followed.

“The use of the term intifada in the context of the Israeli-Arab conflict is indeed a call for violent armed resistance against the state of Israel, including violence against, civilians and the genocide of Jews,” The House GOP chair stated. Gay admitted she had heard the term before and said, “That type of hateful speech is personally abhorrent to me.”

HARVARD, MIT AND UPENN PRESIDENTS PRESSED ON ‘RACE-BASED IDEOLOGY OF THE RADICAL LEFT’ AT ANTISEMITISM HEARING

While Gay admitted that speech calling for intifada, and therefore genocide against the Jewish people in Israel and globally, was “at odds with the values of Harvard,” she deflected when pressed by Stefanik if those sorts of remarks were against Harvard University’s code of conduct.

“We embrace a commitment to free expression, even of views that are objectionable, offensive, hateful. It’s when that speech crosses into conduct that violates our policies against bullying,, harassment, and intimidation” Gay said before Stefanik interjected.

“Does that speech not cross that barrier? Does that speech not call for the genocide of Jews and the elimination of Israel?” Stefanik pressed. “When you testify that you understand that is the definition of intifada, is that speech according to the code of conduct or not?”

“We embrace a commitment to free expression and give a wide berth to free expression, even of views that are objectionable, outrageous, and offensive,” Gay said in response.

Stefanik cited a report stating that Harvard ranked “dead last” when it comes to freedom of speech on college campuses in America.

“Will admissions officers be rescinded or any disciplinary action be taken against students or applicants who say, ‘From the river to the sea,’ or ‘intifada,’ advocating for the murder of Jews?” Stefanik pressed, to which Gay responded, “As I’ve said, that type of hateful, reckless offensive speech is personally abhorrent to me.”

But Stefanik demanded to know what action will be taken specifically against “students who are harassing and calling for the genocide of Jews on Harvard’s campus?”

Gay said could not go into details of any ongoing actions due to privacy concerns.

HARVARD WHISTLEBLOWER POINTS TO ‘UNDISGUISED CALLS FOR THE MURDER OF JEWS’ AFTER LAUNCH OF FEDERAL PROBE

Unable to get an answer from Gay on specific actions taken against students accused of antisemitism, Stefanik concluded by asking what the number one hate crime in America is.

“I know that over the last couple of months there has been an alarming rise of antisemitism, which I understand is the critical topic that we are here to discuss,” Gay said.

“That’s correct. It is anti-Jewish hate crimes,” Stefanik responded. “And Harvard ranks the lowest when it comes to protecting Jewish students. This is why I’ve for your resignation and your testimony today, not being able to answer with more clarity speaks volumes.”

At their press conference earlier Tuesday, the House Republican Conference heard from multiple students from Harvard, UPenn and MIT before the hearing.

Harvard student Jonathan Frieden said, “Mulitple times a week on my way to class, I walk by mobs of people chanting ‘From the river to the sea’…I talk to my Jewish friends on campus every day. They tell me how afraid they are to go to class…”

“President Gay’s willingness to call chants of ‘Intifada’ and other hateful antisemitic speech ‘abhorrent’ is reassuring, but the next step is action. When students are saying ‘from the river to the sea Palestine will be Arab’ and clearly calling for violence against Jewish communities – and even interrupting classes to do so – we need to hear Harvard clearly state how it will discipline those who are voicing these hateful views,” another student, Charlie Covit, who leads the Israel on Campus Coalition, said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Jake Browning and the Cincinnati Bengals shocked the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, defeating them in overtime, 34-31, to remain in the AFC playoff picture.

The Bengals move to 6-6 on the year, while the Jaguars fall to 8-4, though they still own the AFC South lead.

There’s no dancing around it: The Jaguars’ loss was made much worse after star quarterback Trevor Lawrence left the game with an ankle injury.

It came with 5 minutes and 43 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Jaguars left tackle Walker Little accidentally stepped on Lawrence’s right ankle, causing him to immediately hit the ground. His ankle appeared to roll up even more as he fell.

Lawrence needed help from two trainers to walk off the field and get to the locker room while the entire Jacksonville crowd sat silent.

Because of that, C.J. Beathard had to take over at quarterback, and he got the necessary yards on his first drive under center, going 53 yards on nine plays to set up a Brandon McManus field goal that tied the game at 31 apiece with 26 seconds left in the game, forcing overtime.

FROM OUTKICK: MIKE TOMLIN CLEARLY TIRED OF TALKING ABOUT STEELERS WR DIONTAE JOHNSON

However, when the Jaguars received the ball to begin extra time, Beathard couldn’t deliver a game-winning touchdown.

He did come close to setting Jacksonville up close to the goal line, finding Calvin Ridley 43 yards downfield, which would’ve put them at the two-yard line. However, a holding penalty brought the play back and the Jags ended up punting.

Browning, on the other hand, did exactly what the Bengals needed in crunch time.

He found Ja’Marr Chase on multiple occasions for the game-winning drive as the star receiver had himself a game down in Florida. He finished with 149 yards on 11 catches with a 76-yard touchdown catch to help the Bengals put up a surprising amount of points.

It was then up to Evan McPherson to kick a game-winning field goal from 48 yards out for the Bengals, and he put it right down the middle for the upset.

While McPherson missed a 57-yarder earlier in the game, McManus also missed a 48-yard field goal later, which is what ultimately forced overtime for both teams.

Browning, in just his second NFL start, threw for 354 yards on 32-of-37 through the air in an extremely efficient game under center.

Browning also relied on his running back Joe Mixon, who racked up two touchdowns and 68 yards on 19 carries, while hauling in six catches for 49 yards.

Before he left the game, Lawrence was also solid, going 22-for-29 for 258 yards with two touchdowns and a rushing score for Jacksonville. He found tight end Evan Engram, the team’s leader in receptions, for his first touchdown of the season, as well as rookie Parker Washington, who made an unreal catch in the back of the end zone in the second half.

Engram led the way with nine catches and 82 yards, while Zay Jones had 78 yards on five catches.

Another injury note came on the first offensive play of the game for the Jags, as Christian Kirk caught a 26-yard pass from Lawrence before leaving the game with a groin injury.

The Cincinnati Bengals found the end zone in Jacksonville on Monday night, but their touchdown celebration was taken a step too far for one participant.

Bengals running back Joe Mixon busted his way over the goal line from six yards out, taking a few Jaguars defenders with him, to tie the game at seven apiece.

And the Bengals knew exactly how they wanted to celebrate.

Mixon led the way with a team dance in the end zone, and it was an ode to the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies who performed a dance in the tunnel prior to the playoffs starting last season.

WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE

But, when all was said and done, Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. decided to add some extra dance moves before screaming an expletive into the camera that he was in front of.

“Jacka–!” Brown said before running off the field.

FROM OUTKICK: IF YOU THOUGHT AL MICHAELS WAS BORED BEFORE, JUST WAIT UNTIL PATRIOTS-STEELERS THURSDAY NIGHT

Let’s just say that Brown’s move might lead to a call from the league regarding some sort of discipline, as players are not supposed to use such language into the cameras. They are aware voices get picked up by the broadcast.

Brown, who’s in his first season with the Bengals after signing a lucrative $64 million deal for the next four seasons, is in his sixth year in the NFL. He was a third-round draft choice by the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent three seasons.

He, then, was dealt to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played on Patrick Mahomes’ blind side at left tackle. He was a big piece in winning a Super Bowl title for the Chiefs last season.

Cincinnati is hoping that Brown’s solid passblocking skills can provide the same protection for Joe Burrow, their franchise quarterback who just got paid the most lucrative extension in league history that carries an average $55 million per season, for years to come.

They’d also likely want him not to scream expletives into cameras as he celebrates touchdowns with his teammates, too.

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

The top progressive lawmaker in the House is being criticized by fellow Democrats for downplaying Hamas terrorists’ reported sexual violence against Israeli women.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., was accused of trying to find a moral equivalence between Hamas and the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) during a Sunday television interview.

“Hamas terrorists raped Israeli women and girls. The only ‘balanced’ approach is to condemn sexual violence loudly, forcefully and without exceptions. Outrageous for anyone to ‘both sides’ sexual violence,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., wrote on X Sunday evening.

Credible accounts of rape and brutal sexual assault are beginning to surface in the wake of Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7, which saw roughly 1,200 men, women and children killed in their homes and elsewhere. There are also concerns over whether sexual violence is still being carried out on the dozens of Israelis still held hostage by Hamas.

ISRAEL RESUMES BOMBARDMENT OF GAZA AFTER CEASE-FIRE WITH HAMAS ENDS

Jayapal was asked about progressive women’s silence on the issue when the same group is historically among the most vocal about matters of sexual violence.

“I mean, I don’t, I don’t know that that’s true. I think we always talk about the impact of war on women, in particular,” Jayapal said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” adding that she has condemned Hamas since Oct. 7.

Then she added, “We have to remember that Israel is a democracy. That is why they are a strong ally of ours. And if they do not comply with international humanitarian law, they are bringing themselves to a place that makes it much more difficult strategically for them to be able to build the kinds of allies to keep public opinion with them. And frankly, morally, I think we cannot say that one war crime deserves another. That is not what international humanitarian law says.”

PENTAGON CONFIRMS 74TH ATTACK ON US TROOPS IN MIDDLE EAST SINCE OCT. 17

When the host pressed her on accusations of rape by Hamas against Israelis, Jayapal shot back, “I already answered your question.”

“I said it’s horrific, and I think that rape is horrific. Sexual assault is horrific. I think that it happens in war situations. Terrorist organizations like Hamas, obviously are using these as tools,” Jayapal said. “However, I think we have to be balanced about bringing in the outrages against Palestinians – 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, three-quarters of whom are women and children.”

Her comments were also criticized by Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., who did not directly name Jayapal but said on Sunday night, “Rape and sexual violence against Israeli women calls for nothing less than unequivocal condemnation.”

UNITED NATIONS SLAMMED FOR SILENCE OVER HAMAS RAPES, MUTILATION AND MURDER OF ISRAELI WOMEN, CRITICS SAY

“Israel did not invade Palestinian homes and rape and sexually violate Palestinian women. Hamas did invade Israeli homes and did rape and sexually violate Israeli women,” Torres said. “There is no ‘balance’ or ‘both sides’ or ‘moral equivalence’ here. Period.”

Jayapal herself has been a leader on the left on the issue of sexual violence against women, including during the “Me Too” movement.

In 2017, she was one of the lawmakers who led the charge calling for a fellow Democrat, then-Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, to resign over allegations of sexual assault. She has also led legislation aimed at ending forced arbitration for survivors.

Her Sunday comments were slammed by another fellow Democrat, the daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

“Do not minimize, excuse, ‘balance’ or ‘both sides’ sexual assault – that is victim blaming we have spent decades trying to undo in the laws, the courts and the hearts and minds of the people,” Christine Pelosi wrote on X.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Jayapal’s office for comment.

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

“The eyes are the window to the soul,” notes a timeless quote.

And while your eyes also bring the world your way, the origins of eye color are fascinating and even mysterious.

To help lay out the details of this genetic marvel, Fox News Digital spoke to a genetics expert about the topic.

Eye color refers to the color of your iris, which is the colored part of your eye that surrounds the pupil.

KIDS’ SLEEP PROBLEMS COULD BE INHERITED, NEW RESEARCH SUGGESTS

Your pupil is the small black opening in the center, per the Cleveland Clinic.

“Your eye color is like your fingerprint. Nobody else in the world has the exact same eye color as you do,” the Cleveland Clinic noted.

Eye color depends on the amount, type and distribution of melanin, or pigment, in the iris of the eye, said Blair Stevens, a clinical genetic counselor and the director of prenatal genetic counseling services and an associate professor at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, to Fox News Digital.

“Melanin production is determined by someone’s genetic information, which we inherit from our parents,” Stevens said.

BE WELL: TREAT AND PREVENT DRY EYE SYNDROME FROM EXTENDED SCREEN USE

Eye color is considered a “polygenic” trait, meaning several genes are involved.

To that end, some genetic variants produce more melanin, which leads to a darker color, while other genetic variants produce less melanin, which leads to lighter colored eyes, Stevens said.

“People often wonder why newborns’ eye color changes and that is because melanin production continues to develop after birth,” she added.

“Recessive” traits are typically only expressed if someone inherits the recessive gene from both parents, Stevens said, whereas a “dominant” trait inherited from only one parent can mask a recessive trait from the other parent.

“Brown eye color is thought to be dominant to blue eye color, similar to the mixing of paint,” she said.

For example, if you have blue paint and mix in brown — the resulting color will appear more brown than blue.

Although brown eye color is thought to be dominant to blue, Stevens emphasized that we have two copies of each gene — one from each parent — and multiple genes are involved in determining eye color.

BE WELL: GET REGULAR EYE EXAMS TO PROTECT VISION AND CATCH WARNING SIGNS EARLY

“This means there are many combinations of genes that children can inherit from their parents,” she explained.

“Imagine a water color palette that has some blue, green and brown paint options.”

Eye color, hair color and skin color are all affected by melanin, or pigment, that our bodies produce, Stevens told Fox News Digital.

“Our genes dictate the type, structure and amount of melanin,” she said.

“So, if a person has various melanin genes that produce high amounts of melanin, they are more likely to have darker eye color, hair color and skin color than someone who has genes that produce lower amounts of melanin,” she said.

There are some genes, however, that impact hair color that may not impact eye color and vice versa, she said.

Yes, they absolutely can have different eye colors, said Stevens.

“It will depend on the shuffle of genes that are inherited by each sibling,” she said.

Eye colors can be many different shades, the Cleveland Clinic notes.

Here are a few.

Amber. This shade is described as copper, gold or very light brown.

Blue or gray. Around 1 in 4 people in the U.S. have blue eyes, per the Cleveland Clinic.

Brown. This is the most common eye color in the world. Today, about half of the people in the U.S. have brown eyes.

Green. This is the least common eye color. Only 9% of people in the United States have green eyes.

Hazel. This color is a combination of brown and green.

In the United States, about 18% of people have hazel eyes.

The inheritance pattern to determine eye color is very complex.

Stevens said there still is much to be learned about the genetics of eye color.
