A song that praises North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has gone viral on TikTok. 

“Let’s sing Kim Jong Un, the great leader,” the song called “Friendly Father” says, according to BBC News. “Let’s brag about Kim Jong Un, our friendly father.”

“Is this a single or where can I get the whole album,” one TikToker joked. Another said, “It’s so dystopian in the catchiest way.”

“I don’t really like Kim Jong Un but he was really cooking on this song,” another said.

South Korean pop, or K-pop, and Western music are banned inside North Korea, and some defectors have cited illegally listening to outside music as a factor in their decision to defect. 

“When you listen to North Korean music, you have no emotions,” North Korean defector Ryu Hee-Jin told The Washington Post in 2019. “But when you listen to American or South Korean music, it literally gives you the chills. The lyrics are so fresh, so relatable. When kids listen to this music, their facial expressions just change.”

Of “Friendly Father,” Peter Moody, a North Korea expert at Korea University, told BBC News, “The song has Abba written all over it.  It’s upbeat, it could not be more catchy and a rich set of orchestral-sounding sequences could not be more prominent.” 

Alexandra Leonzini of Cambridge University told the outlet North Korean authorities would have sought to make an “earworm” song with simple lyrics that’s easy to sing.

“All artistic output in North Korea must serve the class education of citizens and more specifically educate them as to why they should feel a sense of gratitude, a sense of loyalty to the party,” she said. 

Defectors have said the government plays propaganda songs every morning throughout the country, citizens are taught choreographed dances to the songs and the lyrics are printed in newspapers.

“By the time the song has sort of been taken into the body, it’s become part of the person,” Keith Howard, a professor at the London School of African and Oriental Studies, said. “So, they know the lyrics so well, even if they’re just doing the actions, even if they’re just listening to it. A good ideological song does that. It needs to embed the message.”

“Real Time” host Bill Maher took aim at President Biden’s latest student loan handout proposal, insisting his own tax dollars, by extension, will be funding the “Jew hating” on college campuses. 

During Friday night’s panel discussion, while discussing the anti-Israel unrest occurring at top universities in recent weeks, Maher said he gets “so incensed” at how many of the students participating receive federal aid. 

“When I read about the college loans… ‘Biden administration’s student debt cancelation will cost a combined $870 billion to $1.4 trillion. That’s a lot of debt forgiveness,” Maher said. 

Maher continued, “Colleges constantly raise tuition, then the kids take out more loans, then the government comes by and pays those loans. Okay, so my tax dollars are supporting this Jew hating? I don’t think so.”

Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway said the student loan handout was unfair, telling Maher “You can’t have plumbers and pipefitters playing for the student loans of doctors and lawyers.”

“I’m all for the government trying to help people who need it, but he did that as a political play and everybody knows it. He’s bleeding young people support.” Conway added.

And the only thing that comes in lower than Gaza is student loan forgiveness. So it hasn’t worked as a motivator for the youth vote, you know, half of which are out there chanting ‘Genocide Joe.’ So it’s backfired not just in terms of public policy, but in terms of the politics, too.”

“Yeah, I mean, Trump is winning the youth vote by I think 11 points, that’s pretty astounding to me,” Maher said, referring to a recent CNN poll. “What do you make of that?”

Green responded by arguing that the drama plaguing Republicans like Trump’s New York trial and the controversy surrounding South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s admission in her forthcoming book of killing her 14-month-old dog years ago are overshadowed in the news by the anti-Israel turmoil.

All of these stories that could potentially be damaging for Republicans to help Joe Biden have fallen by the wayside because all of the attention is on these protesters and on these fights, on their behavior, and on the fact that a lot of people don’t like what they see on the television.” 

“Biden was elected to push aside the chaos and the havoc of the Trump years. I think everybody can agree on that… You turn on your TV and see what’s going on these campuses, it hasn’t happened. And that’s one big reason why he’s losing the vote, one big reason why he’s losing the youth vote.”

She continued, “And the resolution clearly said, Bill, that they were concerned about institutions of higher education allowing sympathies for Hezbollah and Hamas, which our own government, Biden’s government, Trump’s government have declared terrorist groups and they specifically said in there it was going to hurt, make uncomfortable, if not worse, Jewish students with all this antisemitism. That was October 18! 31 Democrats including the most well known young ones, the Squad that doesn’t do squat, for example, all voted against that resolution.”

“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill dropped by the White House on Friday for a visit with President Joe Biden and walked away with a pair of the president’s aviator sunglasses and a greater respect for the office.

“I love the merch,” he said, taking off the glasses during a quick appearance at the White House daily press briefing following his visit with Biden. Hamill, 72, famous for playing Luke Skywalker, kidded with reporters that he’d take a few questions — as long as they weren’t about “Star Wars.”

“I was honored to be asked to come to the White House to meet the president,” he said. He’s been to the White House before, during the Carter and Obama administrations, but he’d never checked out the Oval Office, and that was quite something, he said. Biden showed off photographs and other Oval Office items, Hamill said.

Hamill said Biden told him to call him “Joe,” to which Hamill offered an alternative suggestion: “Can I call you Joe-bi-Wan Kenobi?”

“He liked that,” said Hamill, who also voiced the Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series.”

Both Hamill and the White House were vague about his reason for visiting. But Hamill, a Democrat and Biden supporter with a huge social media following, has been posting about the president’s reelection campaign this week.

“May The First Not Quench Your Thirst For Biden’s Re-election!” he wrote on May 1.

On Friday he posted, “May The Third Be Absurd That The Guy Who Tried To Steal A Fair Election Is Allowed To Run Again,” a reference to Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

May 4th is unofficially “Star Wars” Day, in part because of the famous Jedi phrase “May the force be with you.” The pun goes, “May the fourth be with you.”

Hamill also lent his voice to “Air Alert” — a downloadable app linked to Ukraine’s air defense system. His voice urges people to take cover whenever Russia unleashes another aerial bombardment on Ukraine.

Anti-Israel protesters on campus at Rutgers University were countered by a large group of patriotic students waving an American flag and chanting “USA!” on Thursday.

Video from Thursday afternoon showed a large gathering between the two chanting groups on Voorhees Mall at the New Brunswick, New Jersey, university. 

As the anti-Israel group yelled “Free, Free Palestine!” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” the patriotic group could be heard repeatedly chanting “USA! USA! USA!”

At a later point during the demonstration, a couple of people within the anti-Israel group began instructing their protesters to link up to form a circular human chain in front of the students chanting in favor of America.

JEWISH STUDENTS AT RUTGERS SPEAK OUT IN WAKE OF LATEST ANTI-ISRAEL INCIDENT ON CAMPUS: ‘HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE’

As the people were linking up, a woman within their group came over a bullhorn and said, “We are not protesting. We’re not. We have to clean up. We have to leave.” 

It’s unclear what she said after that, but it’s likely the protesters were in the beginning stages of taking down their encampment after negotiations were reportedly made with Rutgers administrators.

Before they began breaking down their human chain, the “USA!” chants from the patriotic students surrounding them got louder and eventually turned into the singing of the National Anthem.

Some singing students could be seen holding their hands over their hearts and at least one student was waving an American flag. When they were done singing, the “USA!” chants resumed.

RUTGERS UNIVERSITY LIFTS SUSPENSION OF STUDENTS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE CHAPTER, PLACES GROUP ON PROBATION

The anti-Israel protesters agreed to end their demonstration by 4 p.m. on Thursday after coming to an agreement with university administrators, according to a statement from Rutgers.

“All students involved will leave the encampment, remove all tents and personal belongings, and clear the mall of all trash. This agreement is contingent upon no further disruptions and adherence to University policies,” the statement said.

A variation of eight of the protesters’ ten demands were met by Rutgers administrators, according to the statement. The university did not immediately agree to divest from firms tied to Israel and said it would not be terminating its partnership with Tel Aviv University.

Rutgers said it is meeting with its endowment board and will undergo “the review process that is outlined in the university’s investment policy.”

The university did agree to accept at least 10 displaced Palestinian students to study at Rutgers on scholarship; to create an Arab Cultural Center on each Rutgers campus; to continue its relationship with Birzeit University and to look into student exchange and study abroad opportunities; to continue using the words “Palestine, Palestinians and Gazans” in future communications about the region; to hire a senior administrator with “cultural competency” in Arab, Muslim and Palestinian affairs; to create a feasibility study for the creation of a Department of Middle East Studies; to make sure flags representing all students enrolled at Rutgers are displayed in appropriate areas on campus; and to not retaliate against students, faculty or staff for simply participating in the encampment.

“We are pleased to report that these students have agreed to peacefully end their protest. They have committed to removing their tents and belongings, effectively clearing Voorhees Mall,” Chancellor Francine Conway said in a statement. “This process began before the 4 p.m. deadline and is currently underway.”
