Garner shared a post dedicated to the dog on Instagram Wednesday, sharing a touching tribute to the family pet.

“It seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing,” the “Deadpool & Wolverine” star wrote.

“Birdie let us know on Thursday that she wasn’t feeling herself (a renowned foodie, Birdie never missed a meal). We were surprised to learn that, not only was she very ill, she was at the end of her life,” she continued.

According to Garner, their vet told them that “dogs often hang on until their person comes home from college and we believe Birdie did just that, so that we could pet her soft ears together and thank her for being the world’s best dog,” referring to her oldest child, Violet Affleck.

Garner added that Birdie loved to be read to and “always found her way into a Pretend Cooking Show,” her on and off cooking series on Instagram.

“She lived a happy dog life and is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl. It’s a gift to love and be loved by such a creature as Birdie the Doggie,” the “Alias” star concluded.

Earlier this year, Garner and Birdie were featured on the YouTube channel WeRateDogs, sharing sweet details ahead of the dog’s ninth birthday, including being a therapy dog at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

“She wants to read some new books for kids. And speaking of kids, Birdie is a therapy dog,” the 52-year-old said. “And she just got a promotion to work at Children’s Hospital L.A. So she’s excited. She wants to have her first time at Children’s Hospital L.A. before she turns nine.”

The mom of three, including Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel with ex-husband Ben Affleck, also shared the story of the family’s decision to get a dog.

She explained when Violet was two she “decided she needed her own dog,” but Garner said she’d have to wait until she was 10. “I thought she’d forget because she was just two, but now, we have Birdie.”

Garner’s famous friends shared their condolences in the comments.

“Oh Jen…I’m so sorry. Sending so much love,” Jennifer Aniston wrote.

Her chef pal Ina Garten wrote, “Oh Jennifer, I’m heartbroken for you!!! She was the best buddy and always up for an adventure with all of you. Sending my love to you and the kids. I’m so glad they’re home with you now. Birdie will be eating turkey in heaven.”

Rita Wilson wrote, “So so sorry!!!! They’re family,” adding a broken heart emoji.

A 65-year-old golfer died at a course in Florida after being attacked with his own clubs in what appears to be a “random act of violence,” police say.

Junior Boucher, 36, is now facing a first-degree murder charge after the death of Brian Hiltebeitel at the Sandhill Crane Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens Monday afternoon.

“At this time, it does not appear that Boucher had any legitimate purpose for being at the golf course. This appears to be a random act of violence where Boucher used the victim’s golf clubs as weapons and viciously attacked the victim, ultimately killing him,” Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Dominick Pape said at a news conference Tuesday.

According to a police report, witnesses heard Hiltebeitel scream, “He’s trying to kill me,” and then saw Boucher beating him with a golf club on the first fairway.

Hiltebeitel tried to run away, but Boucher retrieved another club from Hiltebeitel’s bag and chased him into a pond, where he jumped on top of him, choked him and again beat him, police said.

After the attack, Boucher stripped off his clothes and fled into the woods. Officers used a stun gun to subdue him.

Boucher, who is being held without bond, has previous arrests for domestic battery, battery on a police officer and drug possession.

Pape told reporters Tuesday that efforts to save Hiltebeitel’s life were unsuccessful, adding he was pronounced dead at the golf course.

Boucher had been reported missing by his family an hour before the attack, according to The Associated Press.

Court records show that, earlier Monday, members of Boucher’s family had filed an eviction notice to remove him from their house.

Dina Lauro, identified by WPTV as Hiltebeitel’s girlfriend, described him as “such a good, good person. He was exciting to be with, always in a good mood, never depressed, wake up happy.”

China is releasing three Americans Wednesday who the White House says were “wrongfully detained,” Fox News has confirmed.

“We are pleased to announce the release of Mark Swidan, Kai Li, and John Leung from detention in the People’s Republic of China,” a National Security Council spokesperson said. “Soon they will return and be reunited with their families for the first time in many years. Thanks to this Administration’s efforts and diplomacy with the PRC, all of the wrongfully detained Americans in the PRC are home.”

Mark Swidan of Texas was 38-years old when he went to China on business looking for flooring for construction work in November 2012. He was arrested after his driver and translator were allegedly found with drugs, the Texas Tribune has reported.

A United Nations report determined that Swidan was not in possession of drugs on his person or in his hotel room, and records show he was not in China at the time of the alleged offense.

The U.N. report said that the 11 other people arrested with Swidan as part of the alleged trafficking ring were unable to identify him and that the conviction was based on his visiting a factory that had once been used to manufacture methamphetamine.

His mother Katherine Swidan told Fox News last year that she wanted President Biden to demand Mark’s release.

“I want him to say his name. I want him to be strong and make some demands. Diplomacy is important, I understand that, but this has been going on too long,” Katherine Swidan said at the time. “He is not well at all. He’s lost 100 pounds.”

Harrison Li, the son of Kai Li, told Fox News around a year ago that his father was detained in China while traveling there for a memorial service for his own mother.

“He was not allowed to get off the plane. As soon as he landed at Shanghai Pudong Airport, agents from the Ministry of State Security whisked him away and nobody has been able to see him outside of the prison ever since,” Li said.

A website set up to raise awareness for Li said he had been held in China “since September 2016 on politically motivated charges of espionage and stealing state secrets.

“He is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence at Shanghai’s Qingpu Prison,” it added.

Leung, who has permanent residency in Hong Kong, was also sentenced on espionage charges in 2023, according to The Wall Street Journal.

He was first detained in April 2021. A friend of Leung told the newspaper that he was involved in charity work supporting low-income elderly people and students in Jiangsu province and has organized tours between the U.S. and China for musicians.

Two chefs told Fox News Digital their tips and tricks for nailing the perfect stuffing this Thanksgiving and holiday season.

Although there’s debate about what type of bread should be used or whether the stuffing should literally be stuffed in the turkey, both chefs agreed that the bread itself needs to be dry.

“You want your bread to be dry. Some people suggest stale,” California chef and American Gravy founder Andrew Gruel told Fox News Digital. (See the video at the top of this article.)

Any extra existing moisture in bread, Gruel said, will take up space that would otherwise be filled with “the beautiful flavor of stuffing.”

“Think about it like a sponge,” he said. “If you’ve got a sponge that’s already full of water and you pour water over it, that water’s just going to run off, and it’s just going to keep the water that’s already existing in there with the bread and the stuffing. It’s the same thing.”

If the bread is still too moist, Gruel said, “you’re going to end up with an eggy custard” in lieu of stuffing.

Rather than let bread get stale by sitting out, Gruel said he prefers to toast it.

“I’ll take the bread and I’ll dice it, and I’ll put it in the oven and I’ll toast it. It will dry out,” he said.

Toasting the bread also has the advantage of giving it a “nice, beautiful brown flavor,” he said.

Chef Todd English is also a proponent of non-fresh bread, he told Fox News Digital.

English is a multiple James Beard Award winner and owns many restaurants throughout the United States, including at the Bentley Residences Miami in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.

“I make it with cornbread,” he said, specifying “toasted cornbread.”

Using toasted bread, he said, provides a better flavor than fresh or stale bread.

“What I find is that the toasted cornbread or toasted bread absorbs all those flavors and becomes a better stuffing that’s a little more hearty and delicious” than using fresh bread, he said.

“It absorbs those flavors better,” English added.

The method of cooking the stuffing can also result in different flavor profiles.

“A lot of people will stuff the bird when it’s raw, and just when they begin,” English said, noting that his own mother preferred this method.

“I tend to want to roast the turkey first and then make the stuffing on the side,” he said.

There is, however, somewhat of a middle ground: stuffing the turkey with stuffing “maybe in the last hour” of its cooking.

Doing this, English said, means the stuffing will benefit from the juices of the turkey and the turkey itself will be cooked properly.

“You’ll heat up the stuffing and it also absorbs some of those juices,” he said.
