Married life for Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward was not always blissful.

The couple first met when they were cast in the Broadway play “Picnic” in 1953. They said “I do” in 1958, and their union lasted until the actor died in 2008. In Newman’s lifetime, the pair made 16 films together.

The couple’s partnership was legendary, but their daughters Clea and Melissa insisted that the Hollywood power couple had a “complicated” marriage.

“There is this fairy tale of my parents’ perfect marriage,” Melissa, 61, told Closer Weekly on Friday. However, she explained that things were not “all ice cream and cake” at home.

PAUL NEWMAN SAYS JOANNE WOODWARD MADE HIM A ‘SEXUAL CREATURE’: ‘WE LEFT A TRAIL OF LUST ALL OVER THE PLACE’

“There was a vibe of tension in the house that would sort of come and go,” she said.

Still, Melissa noted that it was their “desire to fight for their relationship” that kept them together for 50 years “even in the worst of times.”

According to the outlet, the couple struggled to balance two high-profile careers. Newman also faced a drinking problem and felt guilt for the loss of his only son, Scott Newman. The actor died in 1978 at age 28 from a drug and alcohol overdose.

“My mother was always the rock, even when she said, ‘I’m drawing the line. You either get your act together or I’m out,’” said Melissa. “I think dad respected her because he knew she wasn’t bluffing.”

Newman candidly described the steamy sex life that he shared with Woodward in his posthumous memoir, “Paul Newman: The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man,” which was recently published.

The memoir was based on interviews with Newman’s family, friends, colleagues and the actor himself, all of whom went on the record with the stipulation that they be “completely honest.”

In the book, the legendary screen star, who is known for his classic films including “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “The Sting,” discussed his status as a sex symbol, which he said was all due to Woodward.

“Joanne gave birth to a sexual creature,” Newman said in an excerpt obtained by People magazine. “We left a trail of lust all over the place. Hotels and public parks and Hertz Rent-A-Cars.”

PAUL NEWMAN RECALLS LOSING HIS ONLY SON SCOTT TO ADDICTION IN MEMOIR: ‘I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FATAL’

The book delved into Newman’s early insecurities during his teenage years in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he needed special permission to join the high-school football team due to his small size. Newman also opened up about his lack of self-confidence and early failures with women.

“I felt like a goddamn freak,” he said. “Girls thought I was a joke. A happy buffoon.”

However, the Academy Award winner said all of that changed after meeting Woodward in 1953, when they were both understudies in the original production of William Inge’s play “Picnic.”

At the time, Newman was married to his first wife, Jackie Witte, with whom he shared three young children, Scott, Susan and Stephanie. However, his attraction to Woodward proved too strong, and the two embarked on a turbulent affair.

“I went from being not much of a sexual threat to something else entirely,” he recalled.

Newman and Witte divorced in 1958, and he wed Woodward that same year in Las Vegas. In the memoir, Newman shared an anecdote from the pair’s early years as a married couple.

He recalled coming home to their Beverly Hills house to find that Woodward had fixed up a room off the master bedroom with a “thrift shop double bed” that she “proudly” called the ” F— Hut”.

“It had been done with such affection and delight,” Newman noted. “Even if my kids came over, we’d go into the F— Hut several nights a week and just be intimate and noisy and ribald.”

The couple later moved to Westport, Connecticut, with their three daughters.

“Joanne and I still drive each other crazy in different ways,” he said. “But all the misdemeanors, the betrayals, the difficulties have kind of evened themselves out over the years.”

The couple’s daughter Clea recalled, “They fought, and it could be dramatic, but they also fought really hard to stay together.”

“They didn’t walk,” she said. “There were times it was pretty close, but they worked hard at it. Ultimately they came together.”

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

President Biden said during a visit to Pennsylvania on Thursday that voters should back Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman over his Republican opposition, Dr. Mehmet Oz, because the “rest of the world is looking.”

Attempting to instill urgency in voters to turn out for what is expected to be a tight race — and one that could potentially decide the majority of the U.S. Senate — Biden said the implications of the race could vastly change U.S. policy.

Pointing to recent comments from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Biden argued a Republican majority would prevent him from sending billions of dollars to Ukraine amid its fight with Russia.

“They said that if they win they’re not likely to fund, to continue to fund Ukraine,” Biden said at a fundraiser in Philadelphia. “These guys don’t get it. It’s a lot bigger than Ukraine. It’s Eastern Europe. It’s NATO. It’s really serious, serious, consequential outcomes.”

DR. OZ SLAMS FETTERMAN OVER ‘SHAMEFUL’ DEMOCRAT POLICIES FUELING CRIME, DRUG USE AND HOMELESSNESS

He added: “The rest of the world is looking at this election as well. Both the good guys and the bad guys out there – to see what’s going to happen. We’ve got to win. John’s got to win.”

The president’s visit comes amid a heated Pennsylvania race which has given voters an option between the state’s current lieutenant governor and a Trump-endorsed Republican and political outsider.

Earlier this year, former President Donald Trump endorsed Oz’s candidacy during the state’s Republican primary. The endorsement has also helped narrow Oz’s once 10-point deficit to just under three points, within the margin of error for most polls.

Biden also swiped Oz, calling him “a perfect example” of a lawmaker who is loyal to Trump, which the president calls a “MAGA Republican.”

BIDEN PREDICTS GISELE FETTERMAN WILL BE ‘GREAT, GREAT LADY IN THE SENATE’

The tight race has seen the two candidates trade barbs such as Oz targeting Fetterman’s health after he suffered a stroke during the Democratic primary. In response, Fetterman’s campaign has continuously claimed Oz is from New Jersey, not the state for which he is running.

“Sometimes I’ll miss a word or I’ll mush two words together sometimes,” Fetterman said. “Dr. Oz never lets me forget that I had a stroke. In January, I’ll be feeling much better. But Dr. Oz will still be a fraud.”

Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, joined Biden during a tour of the Fern Hollow Bridge in Pittsburgh and later accompanied him to a Primanti Bros. sandwich shop in nearby Moon Township, where the president told reporters Democrats would retain control of the Senate despite many experts predicting the opposite.

“It ain’t over until it’s over,” Biden said.

The Fettermans and Biden then traveled on Air Force One to Philadelphia, where the president headlined another fundraiser.

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abram appalled conservative Twitter users with her argument that abortion fights inflation by removing the burden of children on household finances.

Abrams made the claim conservatives called “EVIL” and “Positively ghoulish” on Wednesday while speaking to MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle on “Morning Joe.”

Barnicle pressed Abrams on how she might alleviate voters concerns over inflation and high gas prices. Abrams’ answer suggested that keeping abortion rights safe would help solve inflation.

GEORGIA GOV. KEMP RIPS STACEY ABRAMS’ ABORTION PIVOT: ‘GEORGIANS DON’T REALLY KNOW WHERE SHE STANDS’

She told Barnicle, “But let’s be clear. Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas, it’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs. For women, this is not a reductive issue. You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child.”

Mentioning her idea that economic success and abortion go hand in hand, Abrams added, “And so these are — it’s important for us to have ‘both and’ conversations. We don’t have the luxury of reducing it or separating them out.”

The candidate’s comments generated much outrage online.

Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., rapid response director Christina Pushaw slammed Abrams, tweeting, “She is so bad at this.”

Virginia state delegate Nick Freitas remarked, “Under Democratic leadership, you can’t afford children, but don’t worry, they will force your neighbor to pay for your abortion!”

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk asked, “Why are Democrats like Stacey Abrams and Katie Hobbs so obsessed with full-term baby killing?”

Former Republican U.S. congressional candidate Lavern Spicer was shocked at the clip of Abrams, stating, “Stacey Abrams says killing your unborn children helps with inflation because you don’t have to worry about how much it costs to feed them. Stacey Abrams is a demon.”

Conservative radio host Dan O’Donnell couldn’t believe what Abrams was implying in the clip. He tweeted, “Stacey Abrams just said more abortions will help solve the inflation problem. You can’t make this up.”

Former congressman Vernon Jones asked, “Wait a minute, @staceyabrams believes and want you to believe having an abortion is a good way to drive down the cost of gas and food? D—!”

Attorney and podcast host Phillip Holloway claimed Abrams’ argument was not normal,” tweeting, “Wow. @staceyabrams is getting some bizarre political messaging advice. She’s conflating inflation and abortion. This is bizarre.”

Republican activist and former congressional candidate Matthew Foldi used Abrams’ word to sum up the state of Democrats’ current political fortune. He tweeted, “The Biden economy is so awful right now that @staceyabrams’ solution is for women to get abortions #gagov.”

STACEY ABRAMS SAYS SHE’S ‘BEEN IN CONVERSATIONS’ WITH THE WHITE HOUSE, WANTS BIDEN TO JOIN HER ON CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Pro-life activist and Catholic priest Fr. Frank Pavone tweeted, “hmm, @staceyabrams thinks abortion can help with inflation. Killing living babies to help inflation is EVIL! We need to Vote Pro-life!!!”

Conservative author Marc Thiessen tweeted, “Stacey Abrams says the answer to inflation is abortion. If you kill your baby, you won’t have to feed it or drive it to school. You can’t make this stuff up.”

And Newsweek opinion editor Josh Hammer tweeted, “Positively ghoulish.”

Important Post !

If you want a thing done well, do it yourself. Napoleon Bonaparte Read more at https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/wisdom-quotes https://www.foxnews.com/media/bidens-remarkably-low-key-campaign-effort-reflects-low-approval-rating-new-york-times-report

A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician.

The New York Times reported that President Joe Biden’s decision to stay away from big political rallies ahead of the midterm elections “reflects his low approval rating.”

The Times’ Wednesday political analysis stated that Biden’s low approval rating is keeping him from making a big splash on the campaign trail this fall, as other more popular Democratic figures, like former President Barack Obama will be headlining the big-ticket political events.

The piece opened, stating, “There is nothing quite like having a president at a big, boisterous campaign rally. And Democrats in four cities … will get that chance this month, in the final days of voting that will decide who controls Congress, governors’ offices and statehouses.”

OREGON GOP GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE RIPS DEMOCRATS’ SILENCE ON PRO-LIFE OFFICE ATTACK: ‘PAR FOR THE COURSE’

It added, “But it won’t be President Biden. It will be former President Barack Obama.”

The outlet noted how “Mr. Biden has not held a campaign rally since before Labor Day, even as the future of his agenda and his own political career are at stake in the midterm elections.” His low approval rating was cited as the reason.

It said, “His low profile on the campaign trail reflects his low approval rating, and White House officials say the president has made a point of delivering speeches on the party’s accomplishments, rather than taking part in rallies sponsored by political campaigns.”

With Election Day looming and Democratic enthusiasm “waning,” the Times said, “Mr. Biden’s strategy is clear: He will help Democrats raise money and will continue to hopscotch the country talking about infrastructure, negotiated drug prices, student debt relief and investments in computer chip manufacturing.”

JOY BEHAR ASKS KARINE JEAN-PIERRE HOW TO CONVINCE AMERICANS INFLATION, GAS PRICES ARE ‘NOT JOE BIDEN’S FAULT’

The paper claimed, “But his decision not to participate, so far at least, in rallies that are normally a staple of campaign season highlights how little the president can do to help his fellow Democrats, even with the megaphone of the Oval Office.”

Earlier this week, Fox News Digital reported on a New York Times/Siena College Poll which showed that Biden’s approval rating had slipped below 40%. In addition, the poll noted that 64% of Americans think the country in on the wrong track.

The New York Times report described Biden’s strategy as a “remarkably low-key campaign effort by a president facing what could be among the biggest rebukes of his political life.”

The piece continued, stating, “Republicans are poised to retake control of one or both houses of Congress, an outcome that would reshape politics in Washington and likely end any hope that Democrats have of making progress on abortion rights, gun control, police reform, voting rights or tax fairness.”

INFLATION SURGED MORE THAN EXPECTED IN SEPTEMBER AS PRICES REMAIN PAINFULLY HIGH

The Times noted that Biden isn’t completely “holing up in Washington.” It said, “In the last week, he has gone to Colorado, California and Oregon. He heads to Philadelphia on Thursday to support John Fetterman.” Still, “there will be no crush of voters packed into a stadium, no sea of colorful campaign signs, no presidential exhortations to ‘Vote! Vote! Vote!’ captured by TV cameras.”

Though the president’s advisers claim this is a good strategy. The report said they “reject the idea that he is being too low-key and say they have crafted a midterm election strategy that fits his brand as a politician who tries to be above the political fray.” Biden’s team claimed, “it’s better to boast about those accomplishments in official venues, not highly partisan ones.”

Fox News’ Anders Hagstrom contributed to this report.
