America’s nurses are stressed out to the point where they are leaving the industry. By 2027, nearly a fifth of registered nurses will hang up their scrubs for good, according to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Tracey Moffatt, the Chief Nursing Officer at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, said the nursing shortage has been a problem for years and the pandemic only made it worse.

For the ones that are working, Moffatt said some are now looking for nursing jobs outside a hospital setting.

“There are tons of opportunities now for nurses to work away from the bedside,” she said. “There are a lot of virtual nursing positions emerging, a lot of remote case management positions emerging, insurance companies are hiring more nurses than ever.”

NATIONAL NURSING SHORTAGE HITTING RURAL AMERICA HARDEST

Jaime Taylor, supervisor at Ochsner Baptist ICU, is not one of the nurses looking for work out of a hospital as she believes she can make the biggest difference at the bedside.

“The ICU is an extremely rewarding place because these are the sickest of the sick, and you get to be an angel to them,” Taylor said.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL DICTATE STAFFING LEVELS AT NURSING HOMES FOR FIRST TIME EVER, ACCORDING TO BIDEN ADMIN

The National League for Nursing said nurses are trained to care on average for three patients at a time, but some may have to handle up to nine patients at a time.

“We are at a crisis proportion of a shortage,” said Dr. Beverly Malone, president and CEO of National League for Nursing. “The nurses we lost due to COVID, due to being burned out, being not enough nurses to care for and the large volume of patients.”

Data from Nursing Solutions, Inc. shows the Registered Nurse Vacancy Rate nearly doubled over the past four years – it was at 8% in 2019 and now sits at 15.7% in 2023.

The National League for Nursing advocates with nursing programs, schools and policymakers to provide higher funding and compensation for nurse educators.

The organization also provides research grants to future and current nurse educators.

As a parent, I know what an exciting and busy time it can be sending kids back to school. But for hundreds of military families, this school year is filled with uncertainty. With mom or dad, or both, waiting on a military promotion blocked by Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville, they are stuck in limbo between assignments.

They’re left to figure out whether to start school at their current post, knowing things could change without notice, or to pay out of pocket to move the family to the next place, without a guarantee if or when they will receive their new promotion.

These are very difficult choices, even for those who are used to making enormous sacrifices in service to our country. Choices forced on them because Tuberville is single-handedly blocking the promotion of all our most senior military officers to the detriment of our military readiness, our national security and the well-being of military families.

BIDEN ADMIN BLASTS ‘DANGEROUS’ TUBERVILLE MILITARY NOMINATION HOLDS BUT BLOCKS ALTERNATE PATH FORWARD

As a 25-year Navy veteran, I didn’t choose where I was stationed until I was 47 years old and retired from the Navy and left NASA. Every young service member understands that when they sign up, but that doesn’t make it easy.

And it’s especially challenging if you get married and start a family. Every couple of years, your spouse has to find a new job in a new community, sometimes in a foreign country. Your kids have to acclimate to a new school. It’s tough under the best of circumstances and Tuberville’s actions have turned it into a nightmare.

Tuberville is treating our service members and their families as political pawns. For six months, he’s been blocking the promotion of every general and flag officer in the U.S. military. That’s 301 military positions and counting. Let that sink in.

That means everyone who is or is supposed to become a general or admiral has been prevented from being promoted and transferring to their next assignment. This leaves the most critical positions vacant or filled by acting personnel doing multiple jobs at once without the necessary experience and authority.

It has also impacted thousands of officers beneath them who are prevented from advancing. That hamstrings our military – and undermines our readiness to the benefit of our adversaries.

Tuberville has a disagreement with the Department of Defense. The military covers service member travel for various reasons. After the Supreme Court reversed the right of Americans to choose an abortion, the Pentagon created a policy that reimburses service members if they have to travel to access reproductive health care services, including abortion, but also in some cases when IVF services are not available where they’re stationed.

I support this policy because members don’t get to choose where they live and that shouldn’t prevent them from accessing the health care they need. Tuberville doesn’t and that’s his call. But the tactics he is using are unconscionable and dangerous.

Right now, there is no permanent confirmed leadership of the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Army, or the U.S. Navy because of Tuberville. This has real, negative impact on our national security. After more than two decades of conducting patrols and counterinsurgency in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Marine Corps is training to reestablish its roots as a flexible amphibious force that can rapidly deploy in remote areas should we find ourselves in a conflict with China in the Pacific.

This is the type of wholesale shift that requires engaged leadership at every level, especially at the top. But right now, because of Tuberville, the new leadership of the Marine Corps has their hands tied, unable to issue official guidance to their marines on how to tackle these challenges and forced to do two jobs at once.

That has a meaningful impact on the readiness of our force. Tuberville either doesn’t understand that or just doesn’t care, but it doesn’t make a difference, because the consequences are the same.

The story is the same with a modernizing Army, Navy and Space Force, and in key positions across the military, including the heads of the Pacific Fleet, Air Combat Command, and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which plays an indispensable role in protecting the homeland, and hundreds more. I hear about this every time I visit a military base or speak with military leaders, from generals and admirals down the ranks.

I’ve heard of a family unable to sell a house and paying out of pocket for housing in two cities because mom or dad can’t take their next job. I’ve heard about a foreign military general perceiving a meeting with a U.S. Colonel as an insult, when that Colonel was supposed to have been promoted to general but hasn’t because of Tuberville.

I know one four-star officer who opted to retire following his wife’s long battle with cancer so that they could spend more time together. With retirement orders in hand, they left their assigned housing and moved to their retirement home in another state. However, with no confirmed replacement, his wife lives alone in their retirement home while the officer remains on duty.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION

And I’ve heard that the retirement rate of wing commanders in the Air Force has spiked because they would rather leave the Air Force than have their families caught in the mess that Tuberville has created. Tuberville’s actions are forcing some of the best and longest-tenured military officers in our country to walk away from decades of service.

Every single day Tuberville’s block on military nominations continues, the damage to our national security multiplies. He has lost one vote on the policy, declined the opportunity to have another, and no court has agreed with his claim that it’s illegal. Unable to change a policy he disagrees with, he’s opted to take his ball and go home, punishing service members and compounding damage to our national security.

If he remains committed to this destructive path, Republicans and Democrats need to consider whether it’s worth allowing a single senator, of either party, to destroy the leadership of our armed forces whenever they have a policy disagreement.

But Republicans in particular must decide whether Tuberville’s actions can be allowed to continue representing them, especially on the Senate Armed Services Committee where we are tasked to support our servicemembers, not use them as political pawns.

The damage to our national security and to the well-being of some of our longest serving military families is too great to allow this to go on.

Happy Thursday, everybody. It’s a happy Thursday for everyone except for those in the Big Crapple. I just came up with that. True, New York is going to the **** faster than Joe Biden after adding a pinch of Metamucil to a bean burrito. Just ask Mayor Eric Adams, who said the tidal wave of illegal immigrants will destroy his town or, as Bill de Blasio calls it, finishing the job. By the way, what the hell is he up to, huh?

VIDEO

I wish and here I was told that diversity was the country’s biggest strength. And was it the idea of a sanctuary, the highest liberal goal? But the buses came, and they tied liberal ideas to the reality of their outcomes. And wouldn’t you know it, the libs are shocked. Never in my life.

ERIC ADAMS: Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this… This issue, will destroy New York City, destroy New York City.

MAYOR ERIC ADAMS PREDICTS MIGRANT CRISIS ‘WILL DESTROY NEW YORK CITY’

And he’s the ******* mayor. Who says that about their own damn city? I mean, “Hello, I’m your mayor,” what the ****. Hey, Eric, all I can say is welcome to this thing called realidad, which is Spanish for reality. If you’re looking for a few more Dems to join you there, I’m afraid you’ll be as lonely as Brian Kilmeade on Valentine’s Day. Yeah, because this is yet just another fairy tale that we’ve heard from them over and over. Except this time, Snow White doesn’t have a penis. It’s always the same. First, launch a policy initiative that makes you feel good. You know, like forgiving college loans, letting thugs off without bail. It makes you feel virtuous and superior, like driving a Prius with a Biden-Harris bumper sticker. Then you bask in the glow, knowing these ideas sparkle as long as they’re never implemented.

Meanwhile, the press regurgitate it like the goose that feeds Kat her breakfast of worms. But then, when such ideas are implemented, watch as it goes bad, faster than a fresh pair at Joe Biden’s underwear. Remember Obamacare? Affordable health care for all. You can keep your doctor, now your premiums are through the roof and your doctor says your son can’t keep his testicles.

Now comes the border. Hey, if you like your neighborhood, you can keep your neighborhood. Yeah, right. Sure, no person is illegal, sounds great on a t-shirt, until an illegal from wherever is using that t-shirt to wipe his ass in front of your laundromat. The same goes for bumper stickers. They almost always have a Democratic message. Remember, “Arms Are For Hugging.” Nope. In reality, arms are for choking out a mentally ill maniac, threatening your life on the end train. That’s reality, but that’s where notions like those belong, on t-shirts and bumper stickers. Any policy initiative that fits on them has never been fully considered. Except for the one that says, “Honk If You’re Horny.” Man that made my PT Cruiser the most popular car in town. Saw a lot of action back there, sometimes with someone else.

NEW YORK CITY COMPTROLLER REJECTS $432 MILLION NO-BID CONTRACT FOR MIGRANT SERVICES

So after the White House threw out the global welcome mat. Democratic mayors are now shocked that millions actually showed up. It’s like offering your broke friend a crash on the couch for a week, then he actually shows up and stays, he raids your fridge, lays on the couch smoking weed, invites his friends over and trashes the house, and expects you to pay for it all. I mean, I’m sure Hemmer’s charming, but damn, there’s a limit. He didn’t even set up a meth lab like he promised. But if you advertise that you’re willing to give away a valuable limited resource, a resource that doesn’t really belong to you, then what the hell do you expect? Free room and board, free health care, free school for your kids? Wow, maybe we should all fly to Mexico City and walk back in. Huh? It would be worth the diarrhea all over my sombrero. I think that’s racist on two fronts. Of course, none of you ever got that deal because no government ever could afford that. To raise that kind of cash, they need the stock picking skills of a Pelosi.

So now, as lefty mayors are stuck with the bill for this insanity, the only way to fix it is to lurch back to the right, meaning do what the Republicans were telling you all along. Grow up, this isn’t high school. I was a liberal back then because liberal ideas were amazing and beautiful as long as you never did them, for they aren’t real unless they’re attached to a working system. And there is no system, just a phony altruistic scam. They’re more pie in the sky than the drone delivery from Brian Stelter’s bakery. Liberal goals without conservative systems are like building a new Nancy Pelosi without gallons of spackle. And liberal goals without conservative systems mean there are freebies minus results and that doesn’t work.

Mayor Adams sees this, we think. Look at bail reform, the free-range homeless. That reminds me, I promised Chris Wallace I’d let him borrow my tent. Cities are now replicas of the places these migrants are fleeing. Total chaos and disorder. What kind of lunatic would want to visit any of these towns?

As the Biden administration announced a new round of assistance worth up to $1 billion to Ukraine on Wednesday, some analysts warn that reports of continued graft and mismanagement of funds could harm Western support of the country’s war effort.

“This sort of reporting will raise concerns on the part of the taxpayers who are funding this assistance at a time when we have significant domestic demands on our resources,” Victoria Coates, vice president of foreign policy at the Heritage Foundation, told Fox News Digital.

Coates’ comments come after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday that Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov is to be replaced by Rustem Umerov, arguing that a change of leadership was needed after the country endured “more than 550 days of full-scale war.”

During the Ukrainian leader’s nightly address Sunday, Zelenskyy noted the defense ministry’s need for “new approaches,” calling for “different formats of interaction both with the military and with society.”

UKRAINE DEFENSE MINISTER OLEKSII REZNIKOV TO BE REPLACED BY RUSTEM UMEROV: ZELENSKYY

“The Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine is well acquainted with this person, and Umerov does not require additional introductions. I expect support for this candidacy from parliament,” Zelenskyy said.

But the move also comes amid renewed reports of corruption within Ukraine, with Reznikov being criticized in Ukraine’s media for overpaying for military jackets last month that cost $57 more than their typical price.

According to a report from the New York Times on Monday, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan recently met with three high-ranking Ukrainian officials to discuss the country’s efforts to root out wartime corruption. Zelenskyy has responded to the pressure with several anti-corruption initiatives, including a controversial proposal to use his martial law powers to punish corruption as treason.

“We have long worked with Ukraine on anti-corruption issues and applaud President Zelenskyy’s commitment to tackling corruption and recognize the strong progress Ukraine has made,” a White House National Security Council spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “We will continue to support Ukraine as it works to implement important anti-corruption reforms. That includes strengthening the independent anti-corruption institutions like the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the High Anti-Corruption Court to ensure there is no place for corruption in Ukrainian society today.”

Government figures earlier this year showed that about $980 million in weapons contracts had missed delivery dates while some prepayments for weapons had been moved to the overseas accounts of weapons dealers, according to the New York Times report. Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reports have begun to question overpayments for basic army supplies such as food.

Reznikov was not directly implicated in the mismanagement of the funds, but he submitted his resignation Monday amid the effort to stamp out corruption that has the potential to endanger the Ukrainian war effort.

BLINKEN MAKES UNANNOUNCED KYIV VISIT TO REVIEW UKRAINE’S COUNTEROFFENSIVE AGAINST RUSSIA

“Corruption can kill,” Daria Kaleniuk, the executive director of the Anti-Corruption Action Center in Ukraine, told the New York Times. “Depending on how effective we are in guarding the public funds, the soldier will either have a weapon or not have a weapon.”

Efforts to address corruption by Ukrainian leadership continued Tuesday, with the Washington Post reporting the country’s lawmakers moved to reinstate an anti-corruption rule that requires them to openly disclose assets. That move was made necessary by the International Monetary Fund, which set the rule as a requirement in order to disburse part of a $15.6 billion economic assistance package to Ukraine.

But questions remain about how committed leaders are to stamping out corruption in the country, with lawmakers inserting a delay in the new rule that won’t see the disclosure requirement take effect for another year.

The renewed anti-corruption push comes as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Wednesday, a show of continued U.S. support amid a slow three-month-old counteroffensive against Russian forces in occupied territories of Ukraine.

During the visit, Blinken unveiled a new round of funding assistance for Ukraine, including $175 million from Defense Department stocks, $100 million in military financing, $90.5 million in humanitarian demining assistance, $300 million to support the country’s law enforcement, $206 million in humanitarian aid, and $5.4 million in forfeited oligarch assets meant to support veteran reintegration and rehabilitation.

The new package also includes $203 million to help reform efforts in transparency and accountability in the country, with a State Department press release saying the package will help with “anti-corruption, rule of law and the justice sector; and to build capacity to investigate and prosecute war crimes committed by Russia,” a point echoed by Blinken at a press conference in Kyiv.

“We’re engaged in assisting the Government of Ukraine on anti-corruption efforts and on efforts to ensure accountability and full transparency of all the assistance we’re providing as well as the security of U.S.-provided defense articles and technologies. President Zelenskyy and I discussed these issues today and the importance to Ukraine’s democratic future of continued reforms and the fight against corruption,” Blinken said.

RUSSIA FORGOES INVESTIGATION INTO PRIGOZHIN CRASH UNDER INTERNATIONAL RULES: REPORT

Rebekah Koffler, a strategic military intelligence analyst, former senior official at the Defense Intelligence Agency and author of “Putin’s Playbook,” told Fox News Digital that pulling back U.S. military aid to Ukraine in response to corruption would be a fatal blow to the country’s war effort, arguing that it would force Zelenskyy to the bargaining table to negotiate with Russia.

“If the U.S. were to begin [to] lessen support for Ukraine, it would definitely embolden Russia, but it would shorten what has already become a protracted war of attrition because President Zelenskyy would likely curtail his ambitions for victory,” Koffler said.

But Koffler also argued that the continued flow of U.S. assistance to Ukraine would be unlikely to result in a full military victory, saying Zelenskyy’s aims are “unrealistic.”

“His goals in this war are unrealistic and unachievable, whether with U.S. aid or without,” Koffler said. “There’s such a disparity of force favoring Russia that victory for Ukraine is mathematically impossible.”

ZELENSKYY SAYS UKRAINE HAS DEVELOPED 400-MILE RANGE WEAPONS FOLLOWING STRIKE ON RUSSIAN AIRPORT

Coates noted that Ukraine has had a “historic struggle with endemic corruption,” arguing that it’s not surprising that some outside assistance that has been flowing into the country for the last 18 months has been siphoned by bad actors.

She pointed to a Heritgage Foundation Project Oversight report over the summer that suggested such corruption was possible, arguing Zelenskyy’s recent actions seemingly confirm those concerns.

ZELENSKYY CONFIRMS AT LEAST 16 PEOPLE KILLED IN RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKE ON MARKET TOWN

Coates argued that U.S. leaders should take the concerns of taxpayers seriously, an effort that could be helped by appointing an inspector general to track the use of U.S. taxpayer money.

“Given the complexity of the aid flowing to Ukraine from State, USAID and Defense, as well as the historic problem with corruption in Ukraine … a single, dedicated inspector general would create a single point of dedicated oversight for all these entities,” Coates said, saying that lawmakers from both parties “should come together to help the Ukrainians ensure none of this money falls into the wrong hands.”

“It would have been much better for the Biden administration to encourage this additional oversight as an entity that could help the Ukrainians — who are, after all, in a shooting war — and increase the confidence of the American people,” Coates said.

But the National Security Council spokesperson argued that there was an existing oversight framework within the State Department, telling Fox News Digital that the existing inspector general’s within the agency are already providing “important oversight.”

“Congress has previously allocated funding for existing IGs from the State Department, the Defense Department, and USAID as part of the Ukraine supplemental bills,” the spokesperson said. “Their work is well underway and they are providing important oversight, having met with Ukrainian officials and traveled to Kyiv. We believe the independence, expertise, and access of the existing IGs is providing effective short- and long-term auditing. Creating a new Special Inspector General rather than relying on existing IGs who are familiar with these programs would be duplicative and time consuming.”

Meanwhile, Koffler believes it is unlikely the U.S. will begin to cut aid to Ukraine, though she noted that efforts by U.S. leaders to stamp out corruption in the country are also unlikely to succeed.

“There’s little if anything the U.S. can do to ensure that U.S. military aid funds are not mismanaged in Ukraine because corruption is a way of life in Ukraine, just like it is in Russia,” Koffler said. “It’s naive to think that you can eliminate corruption in a country in which it has existed for centuries and interwoven into the way of life.”

Nevertheless, the National Security Council spokesperson told Fox News Digital it was committed to efforts to root out corruption in Ukraine, pointing out that the U.S. government has worked with the World Bank to put monitoring mechanisms in place and that the Departments of Defense and State have plans in place to counter the illicit diversion of weapons but have so far “seen no evidence” of a major problem.

“We agree that oversight is critical, which is why we have robust accountability measures and oversight in place,” the spokesperson said. “We thank Congress for the additional assistance it has provided in the previous Ukraine supplementals that has helped us increase our oversight. Throughout the war in Ukraine, the U.S. government has prioritized actions to ensure that U.S.-funded assistance reaches those for whom it is intended.”
