The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new all-time sacks leader, as T.J. Watt’s sack on Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson rewrote the record books on Monday night. 

The veteran outside linebacker used sheer strength and speed, his two calling cards to being such a feared edge rusher, to get past right tackle Dawand Jones and take down Watson with one minute left to play in the second quarter. 

It was a big play, too, as the Browns were driving. But on third-and-seven, Watt shut that down and forced a field goal.

Watt came into the 2023 season needing just 3.5 sacks to pass Steelers great James Harrison for the most in franchise history. 

He was one of the few bright spots for the Steelers in Week 1, as he was able to sack San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy three times in his first game of the new campaign. Watt finished with five tackles in the game.

The Wisconsin product has been one of the best defensive players in the league since he’s come out of college, collecting seven sacks in his rookie season. 

Then, he put together four straight seasons of double-digit sacks from 2018-2021, which included 22.5 in 2021 on his way to winning Defensive Player of the Year for the first time in his career after finishing as the runner-up in 2020. 

Injuries stymied Watt’s production last season, as he had just 5.5 sacks in 10 games. 

A healthy Watt likely would’ve broken the record in 2022, but the Steelers knew this was coming. 

Watt is a cornerstone piece for the Steelers’ defense, and they hope he continues his stellar production as he’s not set for another contract until the 2026 season. 

Along with his Defensive Player of the Year designation, Watt has tallied five Pro Bowl appearances and three first-team All-Pro selections.

Put simply, Joe Biden has been an awful president by every single measure. Whoever is calling the shots over at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they’re doing a historically god-awful job. Every major problem facing this country has gotten dramatically worse because of Biden’s policies. Biden can’t even get an endorsement from the United Auto Workers Union.

State police say thousands of minks were released from a central Pennsylvania fur farm by one or more people who cut holes in the fence surrounding the farm.

Police in the Stonington barracks in Northumberland County said Monday that troopers were called to the Richard H. Stahl Sons Inc. farm in Rockefeller Township outside of Sunbury shortly after noon Sunday.

Troopers were told that sometime during the early morning hours Sunday, holes had been cut in the farm’s fence and about 6,000 to 8,000 minks were released from their pens. Police said numerous state agencies and farm staff are trying to recover the animals.

The Sunbury Animal Hospital posted a notice on its Facebook page Monday morning saying, “There are mink all over the area surrounding the animal hospital.”

“These animals should not be approached as they can be aggressive,” the animal hospital said. “They are not pets, and should not be taken in a home or to a rescue. If one of these minks were to approach you get far away from it. Keep all pets inside if possible.”

A LOOK AHEAD AT PENNSYLVANIA’S SPECIAL ELECTION ON TUESDAY

The Daily Item reported that Mark Stahl of the Stahl fur farm would only say he was unsure what happened and warned people not to approach the animals. An email message from The Associated Press seeking comment was sent to the company; a telephone message could not be left for the firm.

State police said they had opened a criminal mischief investigation and asked anyone with information to call investigators.

Cassie Marks of Sunbury told The Daily Item that she helped capture four of the animals to return to the hospital.

“We did not touch the animals,” she said. “We just wanted to help out here.”

In November, vandalism freed an estimated 10,000 minks at a rural northwest Ohio farm. Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach said the property owner initially estimated 25,000 to 40,000 mink were released at Lion Farms, but employees were able to corral many that remained on the property less than 15 miles from the Indiana state line.

So many minks were killed crossing a nearby road that a plow was brought in to help clear the carcasses away, Riggenbach said.
