The Houston Texans have advanced to the playoffs – the Indianapolis Colts’ season is over.

Houston took down Indy on the road, 23-19, to make the playoffs in C.J. Stroud’s rookie season and DeMeco Ryans’ first year as a head coach.

Down a touchdown with 6:20 to go, the Colts marched all the way inside the red zone, but on 4th and 1, Gardner Minshew threw a dumpoff to Tyler Goodson, who dropped a pass slightly behind him, turning the ball over on downs. 

Jonathan Taylor wasn’t on the field for the season, despite having 188 rushing yards on 30 carries.

Houston took a safety with a second left to make it a 23-19 game – the Colts’ miracle lateral play off the free kick was unsuccessful.

On the Texans’ first play from scrimmage, right after a Colts field goal, Stroud found Nico Collins for a 75-yard touchdown. Both teams then combined for seven straight punts before Houston scored again – this time, it was Andrew Beck on a one-yarder. 

Indy kicked a field goal just before the half ended to make it 14-6, and then on their first drive in the second half, Jonathan Taylor bolted for a 49-yard rushing touchdown. Down two, the Colts went for the tie and got it on a pass to Mo Allie-Cox.

The Colts forced another punt, but Matt Gay’s 57-yard field goal doinked off the upright – Houston responded with Ka’imi Fairbairn drilling a 51-yarder late in the third quarter to give the Texans a 17-14 lead.

Gay got redemption with a field goal in the beginning of the fourth quarter to tie the game, but the Texans marched down the field in response, and Devin Singletary scored from three yards out with 6:20 – but Fairbairn missed the extra point, so Houston was up, 23-17.

But thankfully for them, the crisis was averted.

Collins picked a good time for the best game of his career – he tied a career-high with nine catches (a mark he set last month) and had 195 yards (he had 191 yards in that same December game).

It’s Houston’s first playoff berth since 2019 after their 10-7 season – they will clinch the AFC South if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose on Sunday. The Colts finish the year 9-8, but with a bright future, as Anthony Richardson will return under center.

One person is dead, and 11 people are injured after a tour bus heading to New York City rolled over Friday on a highway in the southern Adirondacks in New York, state police said.

The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on Interstate 87, the Adirondack Northway, in the town of Lake George, Warren County, state police said in a press release.

Police have not shared the circumstances of the crash. 

Authorities confirmed that the Skyway Coach Line tour bus was from Montreal, Canada, and was headed southbound on I-87 to the Big Apple.

Video shared from the scene showed the large white and green tour bus on its side as emergency personnel began to arrive at the scene.

According to the police, 24 people were on the bus at the time of the crash.

State police confirmed that one person died from the rollover.

One passenger was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and is in critical condition, police said. 

Ten others had minor injuries following the crash.

In an X-post, Gov. Kathy Hochul thanked the “heroic efforts” of first responders.

“I join New Yorkers in praying for all involved in this horrific incident & am grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders,” Hochul wrote.

Hochul also said that police and Department of Transportation workers were at the site performing rescue operations.

The southbound highway was closed between exits 23 and 22.

Police spokesperson Deanna Cohen said the scene was still being assessed and had no further details.

“I join the people of New York in praying for the well-being of all involved in this horrific incident and am deeply grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders,” Hochul added.

State police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or the bus before the crash, to please contact the New York State Police at Troop G Headquarters at 518-783-3211.

ACCRA, Ghana (AP) — A chef in Ghana has been preparing banku and other regional dishes on live TV since New Year’s Day as she tries to break a world record for marathon cooking — an attempt being cheered on and widely celebrated in this West African nation.

Failatu Abdul-Razak had cooked for over 110 hours as of Friday afternoon at a hotel in the northern city of Tamale where she is aiming to break the Guinness World Record for a cook-a-thon of 119 hours and 57 minutes held by Irish chef Alan Fisher.

Abdul-Razak “has put Ghana on the map,” said Isaac Sackey, the president of the Chefs’ Association of Ghana. “So we need to try to honor her.”

West Africa has been gripped in a frenzy of world record attempts in several categories since Nigerian chef Hilda Baci claimed the world cooking record last May with a 100-hour performance before being dethroned by Fisher.

The Guinness World Record organization has yet to publicly comment about Abdul-Razak’s attempt, which could reach 120 hours in the early hours of Saturday. Any confirmation of the feat from the organization would likely come long afterward.

Celebrities, government leaders and hundreds of ordinary people have flocked to the Modern City Hotel in Tamale where the chef’s cooking stage is set. The onlookers dance, sing and enjoy the prepared food amid the countdown to 120 hours.

Ghanaian Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia spoke about the attempt via Facebook earlier in the week and donated 30,000 Ghana Cedis ($2,564) to the chef.

“Go for gold,” he urged her.

Abdul-Razak had said at the outset that her attempt was a “national assignment” on behalf of Ghana and its citizens. Among dishes she has prepared are Ghana’s banku — fermented corn meal balls in a soup — as well as the spicy jollof rice enjoyed across West Africa.

“If I fail this, believe me, I have put our president, Ghanaians, people who have supported (and) groomed me, my family and friends into shame,” she said.

Under the guidelines, she is entitled to only five-minute breaks every hour or an accumulated one hour after a stretch of 12 hours.

There have been concerns raised about the endeavor’s likely mental toll on the chef. Last month, Ghanaian Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum was forced to end her attempt to break the world record for the longest time spent singing, after her medical team said her body showed signs of mental stress.

It’s the “excitement” that keeps record-seekers going during their attempts, said Annabella Osei-Tutu, associate professor of psychology at the University of Ghana.

“A lot of hype has got into it, so momentarily, they are running on adrenaline. After the episode, they will perhaps start feeling the toll on their body,” Osei-Tutu said.
